He learned a lot of offensive game plans while with the Warriors as head asst. This is safe pick by the Knicks. Exepreince coach that will command respect form this group the second he walks in similar to Thibs in that way but its a new voice that they needed.

Cavs- couple 60 win seasons and a finals appearance with Cavs teams that we can all agree were lacking talent outside of Lebron

Lakers- Great first year and then imo was unfairly fired in year 2 after 5 games in the first year of Nash/Dwight we know how all that worked out

Kings- most successful years the kings have seen since the early 2000s. #1 rnked offense with fox/sabonis as his best palyers and had the team playing a league average defense (a team employing derozan, fox and sabonis).

The one thing I worry about and its the reason he got fired was his interaction with the Media and how he "threw" his teams under the bus. he will get eaten alive in new york if he does that. Thibs knew how to handle them.

Actually since the mid 2000s.

Kings had multiple 50 /60 win seasons during the 2000s. Like 6 of them.

I'd say '04-'05 still qualifies as early 2000's (that was the last time they won 50 games) and they didn't reach the playoffs from '06 until '23.

Hhhm, ok. I guess it could be called early 2000s. lol.
Its really in the middle.
But, ya. I know about their drought. After their successful winning seasons/playoff streak from 1998-2006 (8 straight seasons). They went into a long funk from 2007-2022. Finally making it back in 2022/2023 season.

I don't think he's better than Thibs though.
I expected the Knicks to hire Jenkins.
That's the guy i would target.

I agree. I think his reputation outside of NBA circles seems worse than his reputation in NBA circles too. He’s competent on the X and O part of the job but it sounds like they want to place him with an associate HC who can help him design a motion offense.

Mike Brown’s resume as a HC and a lead assistant playoff coach is better than all the other applicants they interviewed. He seems very respected by his peers, comes from the Pop, Kerr, and Carlisle coaching tree. Also he’s been hired in some very “difficult” coaching situations before and regardless of the results didn’t flame out.

Overall, I honestly think Brown is closer to Thibs as a coach than people realize, except he is willing to adapt more to the situation he is in.

People are underrating Brown. He put a good offensive system in place in SAC. The Kings then went and brought in guys like Derozan who did not fit. That Kings team was also never that good and he had them playing above their head.

Brown has gotten a lot better as a coach since his Cavs days. He’ll actually make the Knicks move the ball (as opposed to Thibs “have the pg pound the air out of the ball” system that doesn’t work in the playoffs). I think Brown will be will put a better offensive system in place and the Knicks will see a net benefit.

Brown is a decent coach. He did build good defensive teams with the Cavs and build elite offenses with the Kings. Its possible he will be an upgrade over Thibs. We will see.

Thibs was an uninspired coach offensively.

He’ll get the best out of them first couple of years before getting tuned out.
