1) I wouldn't give Artest more than the MLE and I'd have all sorts of clauses worked into that contract so I could escape.

2) Marion would be foolish to opt out. Nobody will give him the sort of money he's currently making. That said it wouldn't be the first time some guy had an over inflated sense of self worth and opted out only to find the market wasn't quite what they thought it would be.

I can honestly see NY signing and trading for him with an unprotected pick to seal the deal.

I think 1 thing everyone needs to consider is that Artest's agent didn't say he'd ask for $13-14mil a year or that a team will give it to him. His words were:

Based on the numbers [Ron] puts up, (and Stevens emphasized-based on Artest

you guys are all crazy, he's going to the lakers for the MLE. Trade Lamar for nice role players/veterans/expirings. (Parker,Rasho,Kapono)

Fisher/Farmar/Sasha
Kobe/Parker/kapono
Artest/kapiza
Pau/Ronny
Bynum/Mihm

I can't believe some of you think Artest is going to get that kind of dough. Considering 1) He is a nutcase and 2) Is a ballhog on offense he will be LUCKY to get 8.5 a year. The likely senario is that he signs a Full MLE deal which will probably come out to 5 years 37 or so million with the team he wants to play for (Knicks or title contender)

Considering most team wouldn't gamble on him with his current salary, I doubt teams would be lining up to pay him almost double that. Never know though.
