Mitchell puts up the most points during the regular season. That doesn't necessarily make him the best player. Imo that honor should go to Jalen Brunson.dakomish23 wrote:Wolfgang630 wrote:NoDopeOnSundays wrote:A lot of yall dodged a bullet with your embarrassing takes, I was going to put together a magnum opus quoting you clowns that said we'd lose in 5.
I thought the series would go 7 with the Knicks pulling it out. I’m surprised anyone thought the series would be short for the Cavs.
I think ppl saw the record and just assumed since Mitchell is the best player it would be quick work.
But having watched them all year, I knew they left 5-10 wins on the table. Many many choke jobs in the mix with many many clutch wins. Weird season

Jalen Brunson won 11 of his last 15 games against Donovan Mitchell. It's like a dad teaching his son that sometimes in life you will fail over and over again no matter how much you think how good you are. He should join his dad and gramps in New York this 2025.

I mean. Their starting 5 vs. our starting 5. On paper we were better head to head. That’s what I’m referring to
I know, I'm not surprised by this series either. But it's not wrong to say that on paper they were the better team this season, because they were. They had the better regular season and that's why this series started in cleveland instead of new york.
Now that didn't guarantee that they'd beat us in a best of 7 head-to-head series, but that's a different question than who had the better year.
Better record doesn’t always mean better team. Especially when the team wasn’t the same all year. Gotta take trades and pickups into account.

I was planting an orchard today but my best friend called me to let me know our Knicks won. Yankees lost.
We had said game 4 winner takes the series. No way Cavs rattle off 3 consecutive wins against us.
Yankees lost but at least Volpe is hitting better and adjusting to MLB.

But this is just unacceptable. You can't sign Donovan Mitchell to then end up losing to the Knicks in the first round. He was supposed to be the point of difference. He's the player that was supposed to take the Cavs to at least the second round.
They're now going to have to pull off a miracle.
The Cavs had a 109.2 ORTG against us in the regular season, their frontcourt is formidable to most teams but ours is bigger, stronger and just as athletic, and since neither of their bigs can shoot ours can just hang out near the rim on defense and blow up driving lanes. They don't have the personnel to go small either, when they try they get absolutely demolished on the glass and we attack the rim.
Their frontcourt was a key to them winning this year, against us it's been a anchor all season and when they go away from it they get beat up even worse. They've lost to us in so many different ways, Mitchell had a huge scoring night the last time we played in the regular season, he finished with 42 and they still lost by 14
I wanted this series with them, especially after they got rid of Kevin Love, if you don't have a floor spacing big Thibodeau is going to make your offense look UGLY.

Knicks are a bad matchup for CLE. My initial take this season was any team w/ a legit scoring big like PHI MIL and now NY with Randle.
And Brunson is proving just as lethal as Mitchell in scoring and making big shots and now Barrett crawled out the gutter to score. That's what killing them (Barrett), no one thought he'd be a factor.
I thought the Cavs could win in about 6 but definitely wrong on that and maybe the entire series.
CLE matched up better with BOS with mainly perimeter guys.

In seriousness, bisme has been very supportive of the Knicks team this year. My guess is he didn't think through that changing the poll would have a backlash.
Some of y'all need to get that apology slip printed though. I was called all sorts of things for suggesting Brunson was all star caliber, that the Knicks would be in the playoff mix, and later that the Knicks would be a tough out in the playoffs. I wasn't asking, I was informing. I think you know we're good now and if any team still underestimates us they're gonna find out too. The days of cakewalking through MSG for career nights are done for awhile.

Glad the Knicks didn't fire thibbs after last year. Also tampering was worth it to get Brunson.

Until the clock hits 0s with the Knicks leading for their 4th win of the series I don't think it's over, this is not finished.

This is why I'm glad Brunson is on the team. He understands the exact thing and I'm sure he has told his teammates to not celebrate until the job is done.
The Knicks do not want to be the 5% who loses the series up 3-1.

No cap Game 5 smells like the DMitch explosion game, he gets something like a 40 burger and the Cavs score the most points in a game of the series so far to win it.
I'm just curious to find out if the Knicks can then recover the defensive energy and discipline plus offensive output to end it at home in game 6 with all the pressure on them to do it or face a dramatic game 7 in Cleveland.
I'm still anticipating a 7 game series.

I'll eat crow on the Knicks. I thought the Cavs were the much more talented team but Brunson has been the best player on the floor and Josh Hart is far away the best bench player.
