"A government like China" doesn't explain how South Korea, which had their first confirmed case on the exact same day as the US, was able to accomplish much more. It requires competence, not authoritarianism.
I made a longer post about this earlier in the thread, but the condensed version is that their society tolerates things we don't and consider invasions of privacy, and their behaviors on an individual level are more conducive to quick measures to limit spread. Americans especially and the west in general don't have the necessary mindset to do what worked in the east.
There's nothing really inherent in the "east" that is keeping things running well in Korea. The actual key was rapid and widespread testing, and immediate quarantine of everyone who tested positive, even if they were asymptomatic. I don't think Korea ever went into a huge lock down, did they? It was mainly quickly test and isolate everyone who was sick. The key is to not spend a month lying to people about testing or how big of a risk it is. Communicate consistently, frequently, and honestly, and "overreact" with testing/isolation and mass producing masks/protective equipment, and ventilators.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.
