No..outside of being a volume scorer with a suspect jumpshot theres nothing else there. He is below average bball IQ on both ends, and worse of all he has no all around game.
Small sample size, but in the 4 games he started against minny in the POs, he averaged 3.5 rpg and 1.3 apg in 31mpg with under a block and steal per game..that is not just mediocre but downright terrible. Reminds me a lot of rui hachimura in that he is a tweener without an ideal position. So perhaps a comparable contract to rui would be fair imo.
Thats not to say I dont think he can help a team, but if you want him being part of a winning team he shouldnt see north of 20 mill.
JK has a few problems. And also a few special skills. There have been some (inconsistent) signs around his offense and defense developing. I get it if you look at the signs and say "no". It's definitely not a sure thing. It's a gamble. To me the real red flag is that he doesn't rebound. He has the body to rebound. He's basically young Shawn Marion. He's just completely uninterested in it. The other stuff he seems to at least work on, even if the results aren't there yet.
If he simply dedicated himself to helping his team secure every rebound, and made no other improvements, he would be a serviceable player already, despite the other flaws.
I'm hoping GS signs him. If he sucks that's fine. GS needs good draft picks. If he doesn't suck, he can be a trade asset, to get GS.... good draft picks!
JK is a stud athlete on a small, old team. And here is the team rebounding on/off for him:
Code: Select all
Total Rebounding
JK on court: 50.7%
JK off court: 51.9%
JK net team rebounding: -1.2%
