RealGM is significantly better than ISH.

ISH is funnier though.

Doctor MJ wrote:So speaking as mod here, I'm find with a thread like this popping up every now and again because the alternative is to look like we have some agenda here. The last time this came up we were in the middle of the Top 100 project, and while I forget the specific numbers I said something along these lines:

If you compare the same project on the 3 major basketball boards being discuss, what you saw is that the other two looked very similar but RealGM looked very different. RealGM had far more posts discussing every spot in the project to that point, and the average length of each post was considerably longer.

I'd say in a nutshell that's the difference specifically between RealGM's PC board and other boards alone the same lines: The discussion here is more studious. More academic, more well researched, etc.

That doesn't necessarily make it better though. It all depends on what you personally want. We get posters here sometimes complaining about the nerd-iness, and I just wonder why they choose to come here given that there are plenty of places to go where you don't have to deal with that.

2 other notes:
1. More generally, I get the impression that moderation is more strict around here than on other sites. Again, that might not be something you like.

2. By no means am I implying that RealGM has a monopoly on badass researchers and other basketball intellects on the internet. In my experience, every major site has folks like that. I think there's a more supportive culture of this here though, and I think that's why you tend to see the top posters from other sites dip their toes in on RealGM too even if they don't want to abandon the site they made their reputation with, whereas the opposite I'd say is less true.

I like the mods posts here. Lots of informative posts with good insight.

I haven't been here long or even that active here so hardly biased, but imo realgm is by far the most knowledgeable forum hands down.

InsideHoops is pretty funny. No message board makes me laugh like that place does.
Realgm can be a little uptight at times

ISH was much more mature from the early 2000's to about 2010. Some of the same great guys are still around there, but a lot more prevalent in the off-the-court board than the GB, and the tone and average age (i'd guess) changed around that time.

Saying that, the general board of realgm isn't that far ahead of the general board there, though people seem to take themselves more seriously here overall. To somewhat of a detriment. And this board is much more segregated, many post only on the GB or in PC and Stats.

This place used to be pretty good but I feel like the And-1 system took a toll on post quality. It's still the best forum but not as good as it used to be.

I agree with this. I remember you from ISH, I left about the same time you did. I think the top posters on ISH back in the 2000s were imo the best I've encountered on the internet.

Plenty of 15 year old homers here too. How else do you explain people putting KG in the top 10 or listing Nash as the greatest offensive weapon ever or ranking Dirk above Larry Bird or seriously comparing Kobe and Lebron to Jordan?

Stans is the worst, lamest term, leave that at ISH, reminds me of 15 year old losers.

ISH seems to have more threads and stuff, yet they go into less detail and are shorter threads.

Like, when CP3 said that stuff about the chick ref it probs got 3 pages, here it got like 33.

Same as the Blake/trainer thread, this place goes nuts for that stuff hahah

I come here more, but thats probs coz i was allowed to post here first

Fair warning about RealGM forums, whenever the Raptors win, the board has a tendency to crash and not work for about a good 30 mins. Ever since the update RealGM has had this problem.

Agreed. There's no need to stoop to that level. I'm a member of other (non-basketball) forums which don't even allow talking about other forums to prevent forum wars.

Usually a forum is going to say it's better than another to begin with (what, someone's going to say, "No, the other board is better"?). All one has to do is spend time on a board and see for himself which one he prefers.

ProSportsDaily?? Worst mods of any board on the internet.. Ban you for even saying another forum's name.. That place is LAME
