Kobe is easier to build around.

Not sure Curry is Curry without Draymond setting him up.

Probably Curry. I don't agree with the "not even close" people though. Kobe is 5 time NBA champion and HOF, I'd say it's close.

I chose Curry because I think he fits the modern league better and he's easier to build around. He can play with pretty much anyone.

But in the scope of the conversation, ticket sales aren't all that relevant. It's the product on the floor which matters. Ticket sales will come (or fall) based on the result.

You get oft injured Curry to start the team obviously. Bad with the good sorry

Kobe for sure, great defender and can carry a team by himself. There were a lot of bad Lakers teams during his run, and he still got 5 chips. Who was his second best player for those last 2, Pau Gasol? Curry with Pau Gasol is a lottery team, not a b2b champion.

Way too much recency bias in favor of Curry. Nobody in their right mind would take Steph over Kobe. This board is skewing way too young these days, seems like the average poster here didn't see Kobe, which makes me wonder why any of them even think MJ was any good. Kobe and MJ are extremely similar players.

Phil Jackson won 3 straight titles, left the Lakers and then wrote a book about how awful Kobe was {to coach}.

Code: Select all

...with Kobe I took a different tack. I tried to be as direct as possible and show him in front of the other players how his selfish mistakes were hurting the team. During one film session, I said, "Now I know why the guys don't like playing with you. You've got to play together." I also indicated to him that if he didn't want to share the ball with his teammates, I would gladly work out a trade for him. I had no trouble being the bad cop in this situation.
Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success

and then he came back later and they won more championships together with Kobe as the top player. I'm taking Kobe here.

The only real argument in favour of Kobe is longevity. With Kobe, you are getting a guy that will come in younger and start contributing earlier. He was a significant contributor from the age of 21, whereas for Curry it was closer to 24.

But at their peak, Curry is the stronger contributor and the more impactful player. He's less ball dominant and has a personality that is less likely to conflict with teammates and coaching staff. It strikes me that he'd be easier to build around and just a lot easier to deal with.

I think the Kobe experience without Phil Jackson could get a bit dicey. So I'd have to lean towards Curry.

He'll also leave your franchise, fued with your other players, and get in trouble with the law, if we're looking at that stuff. I'll take choir boy Curry over accused rapist Kobe. I'll say that again, in case someone wants to report this post. The man was accused of rape, and as part of the charges being dropped the victim forced him to issue an apology in which he recognised that in hindsight he understood she had not consented. That's not something to be swept under the rug or trivialised.

Bro...you raped me last week. You too are now an accused rapist and that shouldn't be swept under the rug. Then, when the accusations alone cost you 10s of millions in potential income and you apologize to put it to bed...we can forever hold it over your head as if you had been tried and convicted. The criminal charges were dropped...period. The victim admitted to several lies to the police and showed up to the exam with someone else's DNA/pubes in her panties. You ever heard of a true rape victim OK'ing an apology vs jail time for their "attacker"? A singular accusation is just that and shouldn't be used to put smut on a dead man's name.

User was warned to tone down the rhetoric.

I support the line of thinking that Kobe won a CHIP with less. But Pau is legit. Curry and Pau would be more than a lottery team. Pau was a playoff team by himself. Curry's most recent title was won with what teammates?

Curry is the safest bet, but Kobe has the higher ceiling.

In hindsight Kobe, mostly because of Curry’s initial health concerns.

I don't find the humour in making light of rape. Sorry.

Nobody who has a strong claim to innocence has to ageee to release a statement where he admits that he understands she didn't consent.
