The Anomaly, the Shamrock Samurai, Taco T. He simply has much more aura than SGA or Jokic

Just because voters have put a heavy emphasis on team record in the past doesn’t mean we should care very much about it now. Team record really did probably reveal hidden truths that weren’t immediately obviously from surface level stats. 1962 MVP race is a good example of this. Wilt famously lost MVP that season even though he averaged 50 PPG because Russell’s Celtics were by far the best team in the league. I really do think that taking team record into account there made the result more accurate as box score stats didn't fully pick up the impact of Russell’s defense or Wilt’s lack of creation. That really isn’t the case anymore with the far wider variety of tools available to us to measure individual impact. They would have been able to do a far better job to measuring Russell’s defense or Wilt’s relative lack of offensive lift. Thus it makes sense that team record should take far less precedence now. Which isn’t to say that SGA isn’t the MVP. His individual impact arguably outpaces Jokic this season according to some metrics

Statement victory tonight for Shai. On the road, against Boston, 3rd game in 4 nights, no J-Dub or Caruso.

Team record will always play a role in the MVP race. There are things that can’t be measured by stats that impact winning.

"There are things that can’t be measured by stats that impact winning" what are modern examples of this?

SGA had more free throws than the entire Boston team, he was outplayed by Tatum, Celtics missed their starting center, Thunder were +23 in FTA, and 2 celtic starters were in foul trouble in the 4th
This was no statement

SGA , without his best teammate, Went into the defending champions building and won.
Yeah that's tough to vote against.

You okay? Last time okc and SGA slapped the Celtics you kinda malfunctioned? Consider this a wellness check.Jaqua92 wrote:DrModesty wrote:Statement victory tonight for Shai. On the road, against Boston, 3rd game in 4 nights, no J-Dub or Caruso.

The foul baiting is getting a little bit ridiculous at this point.
