SGA put 38 points on nearly 50% shooting, and hot take artists are blaming SGA on a loss. How about the fact team got outrebound 39 to 56 and OKC coach literally closed the game with zero bigmen, which allowed Pacers grad 3 crucial offensive rebounds in the last 65 seconds of the game..?
SGA got his stats, but he wasn't making his teammates better, he wasn't setting them for easy shots. It's where all those "where do you place SGA all-time" hyperboles and threads should stop. The guy isn't a leader, at least yet.
Come on Brutto, he lead them to 80 wins this season, and they are still favorites to win championship. He has had one of the best guards seasons in a crazy long time. They are in NBA finals, there is no easy buckets anymore, Pacers were well prepared at limiting their points off turnovers, and they won rebounding battle. Let see how OKC responds to this shocker, but to say SGA is not a leader is stupid. Dude is leading best team in the NBA, a lot of defensive players and young guys.
Best player <> leader.
Yes, ATG regular season. He deserves that MVP, it's fine. But the team doesn't struggle on the offense with him on the bench (eye test from a ~10-11 Thunder playoff games sample size - while per nba.com, though his offensive on/off is slightly positive, there are still 5 other rotation players with a better diff in 2025 postseason).
Yes, he scores a lot and efficiently, not arguing about it, but court leadership? The only times he talks on the court is when he complains about not getting a foul (and surprisingly he does it a lot).
Any minute Caruso is on the court, he is the ultimate leader of that team (and of course he is a much lesser player).
What about feeding his teammates?
Give Chet to Luka and it's a lob-fest all the night, I mean even people who call him Donutcic will agree with that.
