I don't think Rozier or Billups did anything malicious.

For Rozier's case it was under $15k usd bet on his unders during a game in which he came out early. What likely happened was someone on the inside found out he was injured and exploited that. I highly doubt Rozier directed anything for a measley (to him) low four figure amount.

Many times in women's tennis there has been millions bet on a side in fixed matches, well over 100x more than was bet here.

For Billups case, he was likely just a player in a raked, underground poker game, in which he did not profit off the rake.

There have been much much worse examples of athletes getting out of line, and these two don't fit that criteria.

i think a lot of people lose sight that silver doesn't call the shots, he works for the owners collectively and yeah it's their investment they want to see grow.

Man, the overreactions in this thread are wild. We have no clue what happened or details. Yet everyone seeks action.

He's been actively destroying the league since becoming commissioner.

Plummeting ratings, load management, partnership with gambling sites, betting scandals, ownership scandals, billion dollar deals with streaming services.

The worst commissioner in sports, and that includes Gary Bettman.

He should make NBA like proper basketball league "LKL, kurią remia Betsson"

I don't know if there's a proverb like this in the US, but we have a saying that goes like "Assign the frogs to drain the pond". Letting Silver deal with the mess he created is like assigning the frogs to drain the pond.

Nearly every sport is doing sports betting not just the NBA lol. This is not something he created.

I did not say he created sports betting.

Read your post this is what you are alluding. Lines like “Letting Silver deal with the mess he created is like assigning the frogs to drain the pond” and “He was the one who brought all this betting s**t to the league”. Every league is promoting this.

Yeah, just looking into it the Billups thing that is more money laundering than gambling. Seems closer what happened to Gilbert.

Rosier was insider trading for gamblers.

He himself (paraphasing) said he doesn't think of the NBA as a sports league and that's the problem. He needs to stop Americanizing the sport of basketball. Focus on the product.

The officials need to be an independent organization.

Every major sport cozying up to gambling made these things inevitable. Not sure you can un ring this bell until the societal consequences get bad enough.

Silver needs to cut ties with the gambling companies asap.

This was inevitable and unavoidable, it was always stupid to cozy up to that industry, money just makes people stupid.

LOL at the very idea of ethical billionaires.

You are asking capitalism to be something it's not-- even remotely moral.

I don't think that accepting sponsorship money from wagering companies makes the NBA more vulnerable to a player faking an injury to impact who wins or loses a bet.

Nor does it make it more or less likely that someone might share a fact or opinion about the status or availability of a player. Doesn't that fact sharing happen at every press conference?

Betting sponsorships notwithstanding, player/team integrity is a challenge for all sports leagues. That challenge is not increased or decreased by the presence or absence of betting sponsorships. Not as long as the betting opportunities are widely available, legalized or not. Forgoing betting sponsorships would only be a PR benefit, without mitigating any of the sport integrity issues involved.

It’s slightly a sidebar but full agreement. I’ve been saying this for years. Eventually all serious leagues will have to implement this structure.
