He's as good as everyone who follows the Euroleague and European basketball knew he'll be. The whole skepticism and ignorant talk about this game not translating well to the NBA was ridiculous, what Luka did in Europe was unprecedented for ANY player at that age EVER. Only people who underestimate the Euroleague and overvalue the NCAA had doubts about what he could do, that's a fact.

I remember leading up to the draft when some posters compared Doncic to Mario Hezonja. The good ol' days.
Why so serious?

I don't like to declare anything befor it's even been a quater of the season yet I really can't think of a more talented offensive player in the game at the moment.

Let's be honest, even the die hardest Luka fan would have NEVER predicted he would average almost 30-10-10 in his sophomore year, especially the way he does it, with great efficiency and almost effortlessly.
Even though it still remains a small sample size of games, what he is doing so far this season is just historical.

I honestly don't care who said what, or when. Fact is we are all having a conversation about a 20yo being the league's best player because he is unreal.

Whether or not he is really isn't the point.

All I know is that I don't miss a game because I don't know what he's going to do next.

That being said, and in the absence of KD, it is my belief that Kawhi is absolutely the best player in this league. Think about it - he was the core of the Spurs, he owned prime Lebron in the finals, he carried a bunch of decent roleplayers to a title without a second, let alone a third all star next to him. The only reason he doesnt get the respect he deserves is that he is not craving for attention like other superstars. The results are undeniably there. Theres no reason to pretend the best player in the NBA has to score big numbers, triple doubles etc. every night. That is a narrative Westbrook initiated, and it carried over to Harden and Giannis, but its not the truth. Most of Kawhi's work is done on defense where it will not show up in the boxscore. But he has shown that he, without any help, makes a team a winner. Name one other guy currently playing who did the same? The last i can come up with is Dirk.

Uhh...Lowry was an all-star last year. And Siakin is now a top 15 player. Dirk literally had zero all-star teammates. Not even sure he had a top 50 teammate, to be honest.

I remember I tried to explain to folks here how much of a big deal it was for a 18yo to be the Euroleague’s MVP, it’s not like you put random NCAA top3 prospect on a Euroleague team and he would walk over the competition. But to no avail.

And he didn’t even dominate in Europe like he is doing in the NBA, just because of how deep that Real Madrid team was, the nature of the competition and style of play, not because he couldn’t already do it.

doncic game looks very effortless, doesn't seem like he's playing full speed or maybe he's just picking his spots so well and seeing the game a few plays ahead. very similar to harden's game, but doncic does a better job of keeping teammates involved and them playing off his flair. wonder if he'll keep this up

This dudes name is getting really annoying around here. I'd like to see him have a great career too, but wake me up when he does something amazing in the playoffs.

Lowry was an All-Star in the East, and Siakam was nowhere near on his current level back then.

Kawhi's playoff-run is definitely the closest thing we've seen since Dirk.

Pure stupidity given how he performed overseas at such a young age, and the way the league had moved.

Indeed. Objectively speaking I don't think a player could have done better in the American college system. Which player in history had a superior pre-NBA résumé?

Ayton's size and athleticism is the type that most often pays off in the NBA. Luka had the accolades in the 2nd best league in the world. Trae had done things NOBODY else had done in college. All 3 of them had a legitimate case for #1 overall. The fact there didn't even seem to be a debate for Luka and Trae - that's odd. (But Bagley slipping in ahead of Trae/Luka does seem pretty crazy.)

There is no such thing as a can't-miss NBA prospect. There have been plenty who dominated college or Europe who flamed out in the NBA. There have been plenty of big guys with amazing athleticism who also flamed out. So I'm not surprised that Ayton went first. But I am surprised that there was any consensus at all about #1 - there should have been a lot of disagreement about which of those 3 should have gone first.

Siakim is nowhere near what he was way back 6 months ago?

That's because the NBA isn't full of morons who would consistently trap one of the two or three best passers in the league. That's just begging to get picked apart and eviscerated.

I’d rather let bums like Tim Hardaway , Kleber beat me then Luka. I guarantee you during the playoffs he will get trapped and or double teamed. Tim Hardaway bum a** will have to make shots. Can’t forget the unicorn as well. I’m not trying to rain on the Luka parade but we have to put things in perspective. The Rockets played absolutely no defense on him all night and allowed him to do anything he wants on the court. That is simply inexcusable. But it’s November so W/e

Any good coach wont trap a 6'8 guy who is also one of the best passers in the league. He burns them for wide open dunks or layups and even "bums" are able to finish layup and dunks.

Thats the beauty of size. You can trap the Kembas and irvings but you cant trap big guys who can pass.

Of course. Siakam has elevated his raw numbers across the board & is a much better 3-point shooter compared to last season.

The thing I find annoying is people acting like anything short of calling him the greatest prospect of all time going into the draft wasn't paying attention. Luka went 3rd. There was a ton of hype behind him. There was a ton of hype going into the season. And there is a ton of hype now. You would think he was an undrafted FA.
