My grandfather died 2 days after my birthday when i was a kid and he was one of my heroes obviously. I idolized Kobe growing up, he was by far my favorite athlete, specially when MJ retired. So many kids basically worshiped him here. Whenever i played basketball i always thought of him first, what would Kobe do and when i would get back home, i would study his game and re-watch the tapes.
We always talked among friends how good he was, he was OUR generations MJ. His passion for the game was unbelievable and in his prime, he ultimately helped Lakers win 5 rings in a span of 10 years, which i think, is also a very underrated accomplishment in his resume.
And to to think that he also died 2 days after my birthday, like my grandfather, it's really a terrible nightmare to wake up from.
Rip to all who lost their lives in that crash. And thanks for all the memories champ
