Randle even wrote about how bad he was last year. He put in MAJOR work. But yes, we had our 3rd overall pick, and between him being a black hole, and Elfrid Payton, they were causing major spacing issues. And we wanted to see RJ Barrett be the guy. We were a rebuilding team and Julius was just another one of those guys that got a big contract, and taking away from our youth. Randle was that bad last year. He was awful. Now he’s a borderline all nba player, being a leader. Complete transformation of a player. He’s having a better season than Melo ever had here. Our best player since Ewing.

Well, now we have a real solid assessment of the situation. This isn't last year's or any other year's Julius Randle. This is a man who worked hard to improve his game. Had he played this way a half season earlier you probably would have seen KD and Irving on the Knicks.
So to those who will bring back their old posts about how they "KNEW" this would happen, relax and store those next to your Immanuel Quickly posts. It doesn't mean anything. I think of Randle now more like Khris Middleton willing to put in the work which likely means this play will continue.

Crazy in hindsight who out of that 2014 draft developed into the real stars.

I was a fan of Porzingis earlier in his career before realizing he was a knucklehead. Randle easily would be my choice.

Doncic defense is horrible. Like really, really bad. Way worse than kyrie and harden who get killed daily for their lack of Defense.

Porzongis is the most overrated player in the league. Most of the time, he’s just...there. Paid and hyped up like an all star, but has never lived up to it.

We started the year very slow, we were 4-4. 23-3 since. Regardless, good teams lose to bad teams, in the case of the Knicks, you guys are a 18-17, I guess we can call that a mediocre or average team. I mean for the Knicks, this is a progress, you guys are finally above .500 for the first time in a long time, but that record should you have you fighting for a playoff spot, but for HCA in the first round. Out West, the Knicks would be outside the playoff picture (well I guess participating in the playin tournament).

What a long winded post, you could have just taken your L in peace.

How many championships have jazz won since the Knicks sucked? I mean I’d expect atleast one right since we are mediocre?

Knick fans taking a big W here. I was one of the proponents on the Raps board for trying to trade Lowry for Zingis because I figured he would get injured again and the Mavs would do better to get a second star who actually plays while we enter into a mini rebuild.

Told that would never happen but I don’t think KP’s trade value has been any lower. Dude barely plays and stinks like 40% of the time

Really, really happy for Randle. I always thought he had good talent back to his Lakers days, he just needed the right situation to put it all together.

I'm confused why a Raps fan would be suggesting a KP for Lowry trade with the belief KP would get hurt again. I get maybe wanting to tank this year, but KP's contract continues on for years after this. That's not a mini-rebuild if you think KP can't be counted on.

As a Mavs fan I suggested this deal as well. But it makes sense for Dallas to get the better player and increase their flexibility in their last off-season before Luka is playing on a supermax.

As to the topic, yeah Knicks fans get to chirp right now. Dallas took a big swing and right now it looks like a miss. Though to be clear if people go back and look at my thoughts at the time of the trade I thought the Knicks got amazing value while the vast majority of Knicks fans hated it at the time. I was still for Dallas doing it because I thought KP's talent was worth it, but I understood they paid a heavy price on a boom/bust player.

They do say that, but it's a really stupid saying. The best ability is being really good at basketball. Preferably you'd rather have a guy who's a NBA superstar AND never gets hurt, but still you'd rather have a guy who can play at a superstar level some of the time over random replacement level role player who never gets hurt and can play 35 minutes a night but has no impact on winning.

Randle is both available and playing at a superstar level. He was an all-star this year. Brickstaps is not. Randle is dragging a team that was supposed to be bad to the playoffs. Brickstaps is on a team that was supposed to be good and needs to be be carried by Doncic just to be mediocre. if anybody is a replacement level role player it’s Brickstaps. He is a regressing diva.

Eh, y’all didn’t give up too much for him at least. DSJ is a bust and the two picks are likely late first rounders. If anything was a win I’m just glad he’s maxed out for years down there instead of here

“Started off” being the important phrase there, when referencing a player who has never, not one time in his career, finished a season

Randle hasn't gotten us to the playoffs yet, nor has he done anything that Porzingis didn't do.

Let’s talk about it

This ignores the $50M in future money Dallas took on. Dallas was poised to have like $80M in cap space the summer after that trade but sacrificed most of it to pay THJ and Lee and of course KP's sizable cap hold.

Meanwhile the Knicks suddenly had all the cap space. Assets are more than just picks/prospects. The money Dallas took on was the biggest part of the value so we can't ignore it.
