Would have been a sight to see him playing with even just a couple of years younger version under Pop. Old version still has the passing and game management, but it's not the same thing.

Should still be cool though.

Yes, I think people expect way too much from CP3, guy can be mentor, but I dont know how much of help he can still be out there on the court.

I don't think it'll ever feel normal to see a guy tower over Rudy Gobert.

I don't know what people's expectations are in general, so I don't want to make claims about how realistic they are or not, so you might be better in that front.

Will he help? Yes, he knows how to get the ball where it should be consistently, he's a smart player, etc. Can he break down the defense and get to the middle of the floor to create passing opportunities and angles like he used to? No, but he can still do it pretty well.

He's 39 years old, he'll probably play like 27-28 mpg and average like 10-11 pts and 7-8 ast. He'll struggle on defense a bit, but we'll see.

Have you seen the guards Wembanyama has had to work with in San Antonio and France? An entry pass is often too hard. Nobody is expecting Paul to deliver 14 assists per game. If he can get Wembanyama the ball in the right spots he's done his work.

I know man, but CP3 is very old as a player, I am not sure how much he will play to begin with.

Greece has to beat Australia by at least 10 points I think.

With how bad most of the perimeter players have been shooting from the outside, that's a tall order. I suppose crazier things have happened.

Great sportsmanship from Kawamura and Japan. They got robbed but instead of whining they regroup and focus on the next game.

https://basketnews.com/news-209859-kawamura-japan-react-to-controversial-foul-call-against-france.html

"I think [there was] no foul," Kawamura commented to BasketNews. "But Strazel is a good shooter. That was a tough shot and he made it," he added. "We lost the game... I have to get better."

Japan's star, Yuta Watanabe, shared his thoughts with BasketNews: "We tried not to foul, obviously. If they made a three, we were still up by one. The last thing we could do was foul. I thought Kawamura did a great job, and I'm not going to blame him or anybody. They made a great play. There is a reason why they won silver in the Tokyo Olympics and are one of the greatest basketball teams in the world."

Head coach Tom Hovasse added to BasketNews, "It didn't look like a foul, but his back was to me, so I didn't see if there was contact. It felt like our point guard tried to stay away from him. But it is what it is. The call is made, the free throw is made, and we went to overtime."

Josh Hawkinson refrained from judging the play, saying, "I didn't get a good view."

France's lack of playmaking is just so frustrating, even a prime Fournier shouldn't be handling the ball nearly as much, let alone this washed up version of him. I don't see them going far in this tournament with their poor guard play.

Based on what I'm seeing so far, Japan will beat Brazil pretty easily.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Brazil has some good players and I think it's highly unlikely that Japan shoots like that again. I don't have the numbers, but it felt like their jumpers never missed.

We always knew FIBA refs lacked quality. They cant even use the high ranked Euro ones, and theres only limited number of refs who are very high regarded, most locked by EL.

I was curious about this. I thought I remembered you saying something about the Olympics not using certain refs. Is it EuroLeague refs that aren't being used for the Olympics? If so, why is that?

Considering the amount of contact they're allowing, particularly off-ball (even when it's right in front of a ref), I think there have been relatively few fouls called. It's a lot of pushing, grabbing and holding going on. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

My one gripe with these Olympics so far is the commercials. There doesn't appear to be any "official," timeouts, so you miss the beginning of every quarter. I can live with the excessively long half-time as long as they continue letting the play go interrupted for the most part, but the beginning of the quarter commercial would be much better if they kept the game playing in a small window like American sports have started doing occasionally.

Damn, I didn't realize it started already, I was taking care of things around the house.

Thanks for the heads-up, I haven't had a chance to see Germany play yet this year.

Brazil just took the lead! Yago is a player for sure.

Not sure what commentator you guys got over in the US but here in AUS, we have the commentator who says after every made basket “THAT’S GOOD!” Or just to spice it up “AND THAT’S GOOD!”

It’s hilarious

I swear Jamal Murray is the greatest Laker merchant. He played like cheeks virtually all postseason and that stench carried over to the Olympics. Cant believe we let this dude hit two game winners on us, I'm still bitter to this day. :nonono:
