The Hawks had a glut of wings to pay and snagged an okayish FRP for moving Reddish. I'm sure they'd have preferred keeping him but they would have lost him for zilch after next season. Perhaps they could have hung onto him this year and into the next, but they're far from their unexpected 2021 playoff run and took an asset back now instead of gambling they could get one later.

Paul meets with Morey and the next day Atlanta adds a decent FRP. Something is a happening.

I get Cam is inconsistent and all that. But he’s still really young and his shot is finally starting to get consistent. Just feel like many teams should’ve been willing to give up this kind of return to take a chance on him.

I think most teams don't have enough roster spots and minutes to develop a young player. The league is pretty stacked with talent these days.

I can think of plenty of teams that can give minutes to Cam.

NAW gets 27 mpg for the Pels, Sato is getting 15
Austin Rivers is getting 20 mpg for the Nuggets
Romeo Langford is getting 18 mpg for the Celtics
Killian Hayes is getting 26 mpg while Frank Jackson is getting 23

I can keep going, whether its bad young teams or even pretty good teams. You can find some bad guards getting minutes. Id rather give Cam minutes over any of the guys I just mentioned.

i understand the trade from the Hawks perspective, they wouldn't pay all their young wings so someone had to move.
But for the Knicks, this is teh exact kind of gamble they should take. Young player with potential, with cost control (can extend this summer) while only giving a up a middling first rounder.

I'm usually not a big believer in the "this is a move for a future move" theories, but it could be with this one considering how much talk there is in the Hawks being a serious contender for Simmons. Could be that the Sixers weren't fans of Reddish and value cap space and picks more if they move Simmons to Atlanta. This trade would fit that bill to get the Hawks where they may need to be to pull of a Simmons deal (especially if they need to take Harris as well).

That could be something. I’d think Reddish has more value than that lottery protected FRP, but I guess salary has to also be considered. Was hoping the Bulls could’ve pulled off this trade for Reddish with the POR lottery protected FRP.

Yeah, if the reports are accurate, the Sixers last option to get a Top 30 guy might be through FA (Harden), in which case they need a ton of cap space. Reddish doesn't help with that and he's not such a high-end prospect that he would be a great catch in Philly's mind for what their current goals are.

But we'll see. Most likely this deal just is what it is and not a precursor to something else.

Sign and trade makes more sense than getting under the cap, the Nets if forced would trade Harden for Simmons. I feel this move has no connection to the 76ers.

Oladipo bombed in ORL, took his 3rd team to figure it out and be something in the league. Sabonis took his 2nd team. Not saying Reddish becomes an all star but it's a decent gamble all things considered by NYK.

2-man lineups with Cam

When you consistently play poorly with the best players on the team...you lose value. :banghead:

Why would Atlanta do this? They get little to no return on an intriguing asset and this takes them out of the Simmons sweepstakes.

Knick fans are going to rip their hair out watching cam. All the talent in the world but he doesn’t care. Very low bbiq.

i agree with your overall point but i wouldn't really include Sabonis as an example. He was traded after his rookie season in which he played perfectly fine (for a rookie), no one was calling him a bust.

Seems like a reasonable deal to me. Reddish is mostly just potential that may or may not be there. I don't think that's worth a lottery pick. He hasn't been hopeless on offense this year like he was in year 1 and 2 (outside of one big stretch in his rookie year), but his defense has slipped a good amount. Clears up a bit of a log jam for Atlanta and they get a piece that may have more value in bigger deals since not every team is going to want Reddish. Knicks are treadmilling, so why not roll the dice.

On a side note, Reddish is about to become one of the more overhyped players in the league (kind of was before the trade too). He's already got way more fanboys than he should and now he's got the Knicks' fanbase behind him.

Smh. Can't say I agree with Schlenk on this deal. I mean maybe it ends up best for the Hawks to let him go, but I could see a Joe Johnson esque rise if he's given the chance to flourish and stay healthy

I thought Knox should have at least been better than Kuzma.
