Would love to add Butler to Houston, but I don't see any possible deal that I would like. Then again, it's not my job to find such deals.

If a deal exists, it would be a big risk for Stone to take, as he already has more or less perfect standing reputationally.

EDIT: The FVV for Butler one is worth considering, for sure. But I'm not sure I would do it as Houston, and I'm not sure Miami would do it either. Unless someone could talk me into it, I'd probably rather just keep FVV. The scary part is Butler's availability.

Yeah, I could see Riley getting a multi team trade going dude loves those. We have other guys who should move too Terry. Duncan Robinson low key would kill it on team with a big. I have nightmares thinking about him on the Nuggets or the Wolves.

I checked Butler's stats this season and they're better than I expected, although he doesn't shoot threes. That made me a bit more open to the idea. I guess we'll see.

The Heat don't owe anyone any favors. They'd rather let him go in the summer and create cap space than trade him for just fillers.

We don't look at him as the problem. Most of us agree that the front office didn't do enough. This is about Jimmy wanting a max extension and Miami not wanting to give it to him.

If a trade for Jimmy happens, I expect his destination to be Golden State, not Houston. The Warriors are in a situation where a short-term move like this makes sense, Steph and Draymond are in their twilight years and their team is pretty good but not good enough to contend. Jimmy could move the needle. The Rockets, on the other hand, are not as close and they have a young team so should be thinking long term.

The trade with the Warriors with no teams added and works financially and roster wise (getting to minimum roster without exceeding the apron) would be Kuminga/Wiggins/Melton/GP2 for Butler/Bryant/Burks/Richardson.

Kills their perimeter defense, point of attack defense and spacing imo. Don't see the Warriors doing that.

If GS believes that Butler can work with the rest of the roster - and his methodical style isn't an easy fit - I'd expect the deal to be Wiggins, Melton, Kunminga probably Looney (maybe Payton) for Butler and a couple cheap Miami guys (needed for roster spot matching). Kunminga is very likely in the deal as it would get very expensive going forward with both him and Butler. Maybe GS included their 2025 1st (mostly protected by their current record, but with at least top-4 protection in case things go wrong).

There's no way GS gives up multiple 1sts that would include picks past the point where Curry (and Butler) would be top players and the team likely starting a rebuild to some degree.

Trying to make trades, you need contracts to trade back. None of those deals are hard to move. Bring them in, build them up and trade them for more assets. You could also get a couple 2nds instead of letting him walk for nothing. I know you guys are focused on the idea of clearing cap space, and that has worked for you at times, but can't be relied on.

People trying to sell Miami on garbage or cap space are wasting their time. They'll end up with space either way when/if Jimmy walks and they don't need to get rid of him for any team related reasons, he's getting along fine with everyone and working hard. Its purely a money issue.

The real problem is the NBA's incentive structure, which is all about underpaying young players and avoiding older guys that will command higher salaries and almost always underperform those salaries. Unfortunately there's no easy fix or workaround for this.
