You don't think they've tried to convince Kyrie? You don't think they've had endless discussions with KD? It's at the point where neither are talking to the FO.
This is all standard negotiation posturing. It happens literally every time a trade demand isn't immediately met.
"we'll just bring him back" yet every time, they're traded. you guys are welcome to believe that this time it'll be different

This is true, perhaps Kawhi erroneously believed that he could be a "player GM" like Lebron and change the Clipper curse. But, LA is still LA...

At the time , it was extremely disappointing for so many of us Laker fans that Kawhi decided not to join. But I respect him for the decision he made, not wanting to perhaps be in the shadows of LBJ.
Ultimately, both sides did well.
He got what he wanted which is to create and forge his own independent path forward.
And the Lakers got what they wanted. Win another ring by being able to put enough of a solid supporting cast around LBJ and AD to win number 17.

Jerami Grant -> Portland: 2025 #1; 2025 #2; 2026 #2; 2022 #2 swap - into Portland TPE, without taking salaries back.
Oubre -> Golden State: 2021 #1; two 2021 #2 picks - into Warriors TPE, without taking salaries back.
In a vacuum, Kyrie is a much better player so I would expect a trade for Kyrie to be 2 #1 picks, plus multiple 2nds, and *without* taking junk back. With Westbrook, which is a negative, you actually need to attach assets to send him off.
Now, Kyrie seems to want the Lakers (which needs to send Westbrook back), and no one knows if he is interested to play on other teams, so that is the leverage the Lakers and Kyrie have.
On the other hand, LeBron will be 38 by Christmas, and 38.5 when the playoff stars (if the Lakers make it there), so that is the Net's leverage on the Lakers' urgency.
If I were the Nets, I would just hold off until the Lakers offer the right draft assets. If they can't trade KD, both KD and Kyrie and Simmons will need to show up to work, and maybe they will have some wins by the trade deadline. You never know for sure, yes. But what you know for sure is LeBron isn't getting younger, thus the Lakers desperation will only go higher.
If the return is only Westbrook, and you don't plan to re-sign him anyway next summer, what's the point of flipping him for Kyrie, just to accommodate the Lakers and Kyrie, especially when Westbrook isn't going to help you win games?

Neither of those guys told all of the other teams that they wouldn't resign after being traded there.

It's going to happen but I hope it doesn't. I don't want to see Kyrie get what he desires in the NBA until he decides his own fate as a free agent. I'm tired of not just seeing the players be catered to but people like Kyrie for sure.Castle Black wrote:

i don't think any other team was interested in Kyrie to begin with but this really puts that nail in the coffin.
Problem is that Nets know that the Lakers are desperate to get of Westbrook
