NBA looking to change Draft Lottery; 76ers say no

The Philadelphia 76ers will fight changes to the draft lottery system that the NBA is pushing to implement in time for next season.

Though there are several facets and the proposals haven't been finalized, essentially the goal of commissioner Adam Silver is to balance out the lottery odds so the worst team or teams wouldn't have the highest chances of landing the top pick, sources said.

I agree with the league. Certain teams try to be good and fail at it until they do. Changes in management, team culture, player personel all have a hand in that. Not always who has the highest draft pick. The way the 76ers have blatantly threw away the last season and the forseen future is somewhat disheartening and really hard on the eyes. How many years will this take before they begin to try? And it somehwat hurts the league appearance overall imo. Teams can get better without trying to be as bad as possible and hoping for the best.

I personally would love a change in format. It will make teams make smarter decisions rather than just saying screw the system and bomb it out in hopes of landing #1. I also think it would increase competition of the teams trying to make the playoffs. Hopefully also balance out the league talent wise.

Yea some teams go into the season hoping to compete and it just doesnt work out that way. Bucks, Pelicans, Kings, Detroit, even the Lakers "tried" if thats what you call it. But before the season even really starts, just blatently saying we are gonna suck for the next few years so just be prepared. Thats lame.

As a Sixers fan, I say **** the current management. They don't deserve to win how they are "building" this team. This is not admirable by any means. Lets suck really bad for 4-5 seasons for a chance at being good. I hope the NBA tells them to suck it.

If this was in effect, who's to say the Sixers don't go for one of the RFA's. If they get him, say like Parsons, Dallas gets someone else that signed with a different teams and so on and so on.

I think the answer is: Not much.

A team with cap space and players like Carter-Willams, Young, Embiid, and Noel are players you can use to improve your team. Not just throw another season away because you want to get another top pick. What happens if they don't get a top pick again? Do they tank next year? When does it end?

With cap space, you have options and it seems like the Sixers GM is not exercising them. He seems content to put forth a team with a little chance at winning. And yet the team still wants to charge hundreds for tickets and merchandise?

i wouldn't really laugh at it. The Sixers have extremely high risk high reward kind of players. The Magic have medium risk or low risk and good to high reward players. Their situation is much more balanced.

Decrease odds one team can have after multiple lottery seasons. Guarantee 0% odds of getting a top pick multiple times in a small amount of years (ala Cleveland). Stop basing lottery teams on teams that miss the playoffs, instead go solely on record. For all the complaints of eastern teams with worst records than western teams making the playoffs, it's odd that you never hear complaints about those better western teams getting into the lottery over inferior eastern teams. Currently higher talent western conference teams have the opportunity to add higher quality draft talent than low seed/low talent eastern conference teams....so the disparity continues.

I dont see it having much of an impact on the league unless its to the teams banking on having the best shot at #1 over any other team. Its not like we are adding the draft lottery to a system that doesnt have one. Just changing the percentages of chances to be #1. Its a change but its a better one. Now if they got rid of the draft lottery all together, that would be an issue that takes some time to complete.

And if thats the case then the 76ers should have done that this summer with their 30 million in cap space.
