There's obvious carryover between the two and ignoring how someone leads in different situations indicates you're not actually interested in someone's leadership but the results that happened to have occurred during a certain portion of their tenure as a leader
Did you read the OP or no?
Here is it is you haven't:
In terms of leadership, how many players in NBA history have a case over Magic Johnson?
So can you explain why you and one and done are going off topic are talking about Russell as a coach?
Because the traits of leadership Russell exhibits during his tenure as a coach in a different situation can inform us about what Russell would have led like as a player in other situations.
Why are you using his coaching to try and deduce how his leadership traits as a player instead of simply examining his leadership traits directly based on the available information?
- Russell held his teammates accountable both vocally and by example
- He was known for challenging stars like Cousy and Heinsohn to raise their defensive effort
- Auerbach trusted Russell's leadership so much that he deferred to Russell to handle locker room conflicts
- Russell was calling out opponent plays on the floor
There is much more information about his actual leadership if you choose to seek it. There is no need to extrapolate information and project it onto him retroactively.

No I'm interested in sticking to to the topic of the OP. You are not.
