You know, stats/impact/production wise, what he's been doing the last week or two probably isn't too far off from what Durant did last year starting in late December, through all of January, and a chunk of February without Westbrook. Unfortunately for Westbrook, OKC isn't at the top of the standings like they were last year when Durant began his assault on the league. That, coupled with him missing a chunk of games to being the year, means he's likely never going to generate as much MVP buzz as he should. He hasn't been as great as Durant, and his efficiency still isn't the greatest, but that's not what makes his impact at least somewhat on par with the best in the league anyway. It's his relentless aggression, and non-stop motor that separates him from most players in the league today, and it's a joy to watch.
I've always appreciated Westbrook. Yes, Durant has always been my favorite OKC player, but I'm a Thunder fan first and foremost, so I've always defended and appreciated Russ with all of his good and bad. But recently, with his amazing play, is probably the first time I've really, truly realized how dang lucky I am as a Thunder fan. I'm getting to see Russ, for probably the first time in his career, fully unleashed and it's a thing of beauty a lot more often than not. He really is, in a completely and different way, a very special player in his own right.
Said in a thread about which point guards would make OKC better if they replaced Westbrook:
