76ers are very underrated defensively and Noel is already one of the best defenders in the NBA.

Simply because I didn't expect to be taken to OT, at home, by the lowly, lowly 76ers; especially since the trade we've blown out better teams than that. But, this is the NBA and when you sleepwalk and give roughly 5% effort on defense for 3 quarters, any team on any given night can give you a scare.

I say that to say this: it's still a little difficult for me to fully appreciate Russ' game tonight simply because I'm not happy about needing OT to beat the 76ers. I think I'll have to go back and re-watch the game on Friday or Saturday when the Thunder aren't playing. Still, I am aware of how amazing he was tonight. The guy really is a freak of nature.

Yeah, I get what your saying. The bigs just flat didn't show. McGary and Nick were solid, but Ibaka and Kanter were completely missing, and the perimeter D was worrying again. Russ was awesome, and Waiters finally had a good game.

Yeah, but that really did look like a game where the team just came out with absolutely zero respect for the opponent, and put forth next to no effort for three quarters. I remember at various points throughout the game thinking some of the guys just looked completely disinterested. It almost came back to bite them in the butt. I mean, yeah, the 76ers have a handful of players in their rotation that wouldn't be able to find a spot on another NBA roster, but they're still NBA players and you can't come out and just completely overlook someone.

True, I kept waiting for them to go, but they never really did.

What's funny about that game is that in the first half OKC went on a 20-2 run to close the 1st quarter, then spanning the 3rd and 4th quarters they went on something like a 22-2 or 23-2 run, and still needed OT to win the game. I mean think about that. They had two different portions of the game where they combined to outscore the 76ers 42-4 and still needed to OT to win. That really just tells me they were completely, and totally as disinterested as they could possibly be.

Turnovers and second chance points were the real killers. Ibaka was horrible until right before he fouled out and Kanter never really showed up. McGary was giving his usual energy and Nick was...Nick, but they're not major minute guys. It was disappointing knowing we're getting killed on the boards and Ibaka (who had been on a tear rebounding) wasn't doing anything about it. Phill y's uncharacteristic hot shooting from three also didn't help.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

33/10/10/2 on 58% TS in just 35.7 MPG in his last 13 games. Scored 40+ 4 times in that stretch, with 3 of them being 45+.
But in his home dwelling...the hi-top faded warrior is revered. *Smack!* The sound of his palm blocking the basketball... the sound of thousands rising, roaring... the sound of "get that sugar honey iced tea outta here!"

Yeah, this is different from the usual. But how can you criticize him (other than his occasional tunnel vision, which you kind of need without Durant). He's literally dropping triple doubles like he's Oscar Robertson. That's amazing.

Although...I would say that he's on his way to being over-hyped by the media. I heard someone say that Westbrook is better than prime Lebron or KD, which is crazy talk. And it is kind of annoying how everyone in the media still acts like everyone in the media still hates him, which they obviously don't.

Sorry for the rambling post.

Last 15 games

He's been putting up great efficiency as a ball handler and a scorer

119 ORTG
50.0% AST% with only a 12.8 TOV% ( that is incredibly efficient for someone with so many possessions handling the ball )
Hell even his TS% is up to 57.2 in that stretch

His box score stats are crazy 31.5/9.0/9.5 in 35.4 Minutes

Im very impressed

Westbrook Box-Score with Durant Out (17 G)

Code: Select all

MPG    PTS    ORB    DRB    AST    STL    TS%   TOV%    GmSc
34.0   31.3   1.9    5.4    8.9    2.2   .538  .121     24.4

~54.1% AST%
~42.2% USG
115 ORTG
101 DRTG
~35 PER

I hope everybody understands how amazing this is. A 42 USG% over 17 games is crazy enough, but it doesn't even account for his assists and ball-handling load, which we all know without KD playing is astronomically high since OKC has crap ball-handlers/creators. The fact he can handle this historic USG% over 34 minutes!!!! And he's expending energy on the defensive glass, too!

You might be looking at the largest offensive load being carried in NBA history, especially over this triple-dub stretch. It's mind-boggling that he's doing it with excellent individual offensive efficiency.

It does not seem real.

Jesus Christ, that's incredible. That TOV%, considering the load...

I'm actually starting to entertain the idea that he's better than Durant, which I didn't think was ever gonna be possible.

Didn't notice that, good catch. Wondering if a pair of teammates ever won the scoring title in back to back years, so I looked it up... Turns out it has never happened in the NBA.

The Philadelphia Warriors had Paul Arizin win the scoring title in '52 and Neil Johnston win the scoring title in '53, but Arizin did not play a game for the '53 warriors (or in the nba at all for that matter). Same kind of close call occurred in the ABA with the '72 and '73 Virginia Squires, who had two different players win scoring titles back to back. But Charlie Scott (the leader in '72) wasn't on the '73 Virginia Squires team with Dr. J (who won the scoring title that season)

Never been done before by teammates who played both seasons together (though of course Durant being out so many games is a big contributor here)

Sadly his triple double streak will end against the bulls tonight. There's no way he can get 10 rebounds against Noah/Gasol

Disappointing. Only going for like 45/6/11 tonight. Weak rebounding effort.

E'twuan Moore of all people shoots 90% from the floor and hits the game-winning three. This is three straight road games against playoff teams where Russ has been AWFUL closing out the game and OKC blows the lead and loses. In two of those games OKC had a 10+ point lead in the 4th quarter.
Said in a thread about which point guards would make OKC better if they replaced Westbrook:
