Ferry doesn't strike me as cruel or foolish which leads me to one conclusion:
Is D Ferry seriously considering bringing Drew back?
Is he waiting for the next relationship before ending the old one?

The Hawks have not made a final decision on Larry Drew, but it is assumed he won't be back unless they are unable to secure a deal with any of their top targets.

That brings to three the number of candidates who have been interviewed for the position. As previously reported, they have also spoken to Nate McMillan.
However, there are more.
I am told that there are others who have been officially interviewed. How many and who they are remains a secret. Ferry is keeping his coaching search extremely close to the vest and has repeated declined to speak specifically about the process.
Drew to interview for Bucks head coach position
Larry Drew is preparing to part ways with the Hawks and will interview for the head coach position with the Bucks Monday.
Drew told the Atlanta Journal Constitution Friday that in a meeting with general manager Danny Ferry earlier this week the two came to an amicable agreement to allow the coach to interview for other vacant positions in the league. The Bucks called Ferry about speaking with Drew, who is still under contract until June 30, and they were granted permission.
“I’ve moved on from the situation,” Drew told the AJC. “We had a very professional talk just trying to get things in order since I’m still under contract.”
There has also been interest in Drew from a second team. There are currently five openings for head coaches in the NBA – the Bucks, Pistons, Nets, Bobcats and 76ers.
The door is not completely closed on Drew returning to coach the Hawks were he spent the past nine years, the last three as head coach.
“There is not a sadness,” Drew said. “This is a business. We left open that this could evolve back. If it doesn’t, I have to move on. That’s how this business works. I knew that. Nine years is a good run. There is a business side to this profession.”
