Ferry doesn't strike me as cruel or foolish which leads me to one conclusion:

Is D Ferry seriously considering bringing Drew back?

Is he waiting for the next relationship before ending the old one?

I just don't get why Ferry won't just rip off the band-aid and dump him.

It's like Danny is actively looking for a new girlfriend, while his old flame sits at home.

He should just be a man and break it off with her...I mean him.

It's the humane thing to do.

This lends me to believe hes considering bringing Drew back. I will not be happy if that is the case.

I imagine Ferry wouldn't want to burn any bridge before he had to. If he hated Drew's work, that'd be one thing. But if he simply wanted better, he'd wait until he had a better man.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Hawks tar getting SVG. can't find any official "Larry drew fired" reports. But media is talking about "vacant hawks head coaching job"

Svg = no d12

Possibly, but leaving Drew twisting in the wind with no surefire answer can't sit well with Drew or other members of the coaching fraternity.

Again, Drew could pursue other jobs if he knew for certain he was being let go. He could recruit other assistant coaches if he knew for certain he was being retained. Other teams can't even contact him because he is technically still under contract.

Noone benefits from Ferry holding him hostage. His assistant coaches have already started looking elsewhere for jobs. Some have even approached college coaches about jobs.

Just make a damn decision, DF.

Now rumors as floating around about Stan Van Gundy.

Seriously, it's like dating around town while you're still married. End one before starting the next one.

The Hawks have not made a final decision on Larry Drew, but it is assumed he won't be back unless they are unable to secure a deal with any of their top targets.

If this is true and Ferry comes to me after courting a ton of other coaches, I tell him to f*** himself and walk away June 30th. Leaving him coachless at the start of Free Agency.

Seriously, dude. From a guy who's juggled on more than one occasion, make a damn decision. Fire the old guy and then go hunting for a new one.

All major media outlets are reporting it. They all mention "vacant hawks head coaching job".

If this was leaked, ferry has no choice but to fire or axe drew now

Also they say the 76ers are interested in drew

It's worth noting all these outlets are just reorting based on the Yahoo story. N other independent confirmation.

I also read that Drew was made aware that Ferry would be looking elsewhere for other coaching options.

So, at least there is some transparency.

Im sure he told him he was going to look elsewhere first, which is why it leaked that Drew and asst were looking for jobs earlier this week.

I mean after thinking about it, technically it is a vacant coaching job as Drews contract expires June 30th. With no extension in place, the Hawks will have no coach next year as it sits.

The feeling I get, is that part of the reason we're pursuing SVG is to attract D12.

Dwight has had 4 different NBA Head Coaches; the most successful by far has been Stan Van Gundy.

Really liking the way the Hawks are starting to unfold. We have a great GM, who is pursuing a great HC, and plenty of cap space to sign some good players with. I think the draft is what's going to make us though. A solid draft this year puts us into a good position to continue to develop a young core of guys with the new coach. Much like how pop does with his guys.

It could take a while if DF prime target is BUD in SA and that they keep winning!
As soon as SA is out, things should go much faster!

Well C-Viv finally reports something of substance. Both Stan Van and Budenholzer have been officially interviewed by Ferry to go along with McMillan but here's another kicker:

That brings to three the number of candidates who have been interviewed for the position. As previously reported, they have also spoken to Nate McMillan.

However, there are more.

I am told that there are others who have been officially interviewed. How many and who they are remains a secret. Ferry is keeping his coaching search extremely close to the vest and has repeated declined to speak specifically about the process

I've heard whispers of GS Asst Coach Mike Malone.

He seems like he'd be a good hire from what I've heard/read.

From our friend C-Viv

Drew to interview for Bucks head coach position
Larry Drew is preparing to part ways with the Hawks and will interview for the head coach position with the Bucks Monday.
Drew told the Atlanta Journal Constitution Friday that in a meeting with general manager Danny Ferry earlier this week the two came to an amicable agreement to allow the coach to interview for other vacant positions in the league. The Bucks called Ferry about speaking with Drew, who is still under contract until June 30, and they were granted permission.

“I’ve moved on from the situation,” Drew told the AJC. “We had a very professional talk just trying to get things in order since I’m still under contract.”

There has also been interest in Drew from a second team. There are currently five openings for head coaches in the NBA – the Bucks, Pistons, Nets, Bobcats and 76ers.

The door is not completely closed on Drew returning to coach the Hawks were he spent the past nine years, the last three as head coach.

“There is not a sadness,” Drew said. “This is a business. We left open that this could evolve back. If it doesn’t, I have to move on. That’s how this business works. I knew that. Nine years is a good run. There is a business side to this profession.”

Return to Atlanta Hawks
