I'm in Heaven.

Read this from the AJC :
Chris Vivlamore wrote:Just what are in the Hawks' daily vitamins?

Several times this season, during interviews, Hawks players would mention “daily vitamins” as part of their routines. I assumed they literally meant a vitamin regime.
....
Daily vitamins have nothing to do with supplements. They are, in fact, a major part of the Hawks’ player development system. It is the term used for the daily one-on-one time that assistant coaches work with an individual player. Under the system, different assistants are assigned a group of players.

Wonderful to think that, if we acquire a talent, we'll DEVELOP HIM. 2/3rds into the season, during a lull, it's good to read something so - what're the words I've been using? - oh, yeah, competent and professional.

I realize (now) that Marvin Williams' problems were caused by a chronic bad back, but could you imagine if Mike Woodson had had the sense to do this with Marvelous, Josh Smith, Acie Law, Jeff Teague, Josh Childress, even Salim Stoudemire*?

*Depressingly long list, huh? I coulda mentioned more, of course.

Of course Viclamore would think they are literal vitamins.

You noticed the "2/3rds into the season" remark?

With our luck, Vivlamore's a Celtics fan (or soccer-only) and was forced into covering the Hawks because no one else in the office wanted to.

Chris Vivlamore is the worst.

I've always wondered what happened to MC. He got re-assigned to general sports duty, while C-Viv was put on hawks desk. he knows nothing about Bball...it's pretty obvious. To this day I've never gotten a straight answer about MC. Was he demoted? being groomed for other duties? I suspect Hawks requested him off their detail.

Just a suspicion.

Before this thread dies, let me add one more quote from the article:
The procedure is part of first-year coach Mike Budenholzer’s system. It’s not the norm, according to Ham.

“I’ve been around teams where quite honestly, you get your work in if you have the time before or after practice,” Ham said. “It’s usually random or fragmented. Then you do have some players that carve out the time to make sure they get individual work every day. For a coach to establish that has one of the main routines that we do daily, it’s the first time I’ve seen it. I love it. I wish I had it when I was a player.”

Ham, who works with the big men, tailors the sessions to each player. He said the session with Millsap is different than those of Elton Brand, Mike Scott and Gustavo Ayon. Ham said the session could be used to work on fundamentals. He likes to begin with footwork and work his way up.

All in all, we've got 5 assistant coaches doing this. Players are assigned to a particular coach for his daily vitamins. We've got something special starting here, I think.

^This program is indeed a revelation. But it begs the question:

How terrible/ill-prepared is Dennis (and Jared) that even with all this extra attention and development from assistant coaches...his play is still so underwhelming.

I was all about patience and easing DS into the NBA. But if he can't even get PT when he plays well (relatively speaking), might it be time to consider including him in trade?

#1, which coach works with Schröder daily?
#2, Budenholzer has been so good with player development that he deserves the benefit of the doubt - for at least the rest of this year and into next. As far as I'm concerned, we're got both Teague and Dennis for 3 more years no matter what, so I say wait and see how this works out.

It's Mack whom we need to make a decision on sooner than later.

#1 Yeah, that's a good question. In the off-season I was hoping we'd bring in a veteran PG to help mentor Schroder. There's a definite drawback to having three young players who all play the exact same position. It's a disservice to all IMO. Either Teague should be getting all the mentoring as he transitions to veteran PG and leader of the team...or Schroder should.

#2 Don't forget we have to make a decision on Dennis as soon as December of this year. He hasn't looked much better than Jared Cunningham in his limited PT. If he's going to be the 3rd string PG going forward as well, I have to think he (and we) would be better served by just trading him.

Three PGs 25 and under on the same roster is a terrible idea. As no one gets the brunt of the mentoring since they all need mentoring. A vet PG would serve us well now also as the team is avg only 85 PPG in the last couple of weeks.

Really makes me wish we'd brought back Devin this year.

I think the thing with Dennis is that he could be a child prodigy but even a couple months at a top college with all of the world's best mentors won't make him a licensed doctor right off the bat. I'm sure even Doogie Howser spent a few semesters in med. school before he was allowed to go elbow deep into someone's abdominal cavity. Just feel confident that even though he's not getting into games that he's at least receiving constructive attention in addition to practice rather than being off in some corner playing "bet it hit rim" with Jenkins or something.
