HereBembry has been Hawks’ best player at summer league
Bembry has been the Hawks’ best player so far in the Las Vegas Summer League. He started the team’s three games and totaled 30 points on 10-of-23 shooting, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range. He also has 14 rebounds, 14 assists, four steals and one block.
The Hawks believe Bembry fits the bill as a long, athletic wing player who can play multiple positions. Bembry said he believes he can play point guard, shooting guard or small forward. Some around the league think he eventually could play point guard because of his passing ability. Others believe he will fit as a wing, such as Kent Bazemore, in the Hawks’ system.
[S]ummer league coach Taylor Jenkins said. “We put him in a lot of different situations. The beauty of our offense is guys are very interchangeable. To get a guy who may be pegged as a 2 or 3, but can play some point or be in pick-and-roll situations or decision-making situations, it’s going to be exciting.”
Bembry averaged 17.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 37.3 minutes in his final collegiate season.

Does Bembry have a future with the Hawks?
Nice write-up on the Hawks' other 1st round draftee. He seems like a keeper...

Re: De'Andre Bembry already making a name for himself
His all around game and cool demeanor seem like nice fits on this squad. I get the feeling he'll be a long time player in this league as a jack-of-all trades, change of pace, sixth man.
He just has to fix that jumper...and without the benefit of Kenny Atkinson.

Glad his game seems to be translating to the big stage. Granted, it's only summer league, but at least that's a step up from college. And i'm sure this is due in part to the hair, but he reminds me quite a bit of J-Chill

Coach Ben Sullivan was the coach that helped Bazemore fix his shot and Thabo too. They'll fix Bembry.
For all the talk about his shooting 10-23 for 43% and 42% from 3 isn't terrible. (Yes, I know very small sample size).
And yes, it's the Chilz hair but not much else.

Kent Bazemore did not know what to expect when he first met Hawks assistant coach Ben Sullivan.
Bazemore came to Atlanta in the 2014 offseason after he had shown promise with the Los Angeles Lakers as an energetic wing defender who amped up the team's fast break.
Still, when he arrived here as a free agent, he hadn't fully developed his skill set as a shooter. Sullivan, one of the Hawks' assistant coaches who works with the players on their shooting, laid out a plan to remedy that gap. Bazemore recalled Sullivan's candor at that meeting.
"When I first got here, the first thing he said – and I had known him for two minutes – was, 'Your jump shot is ugly, we're going to change it,'" Bazemore said with a grin.

The hair and all around smoothness of his game is indeed reminiscent of J-Chill.
He also reminds me a bit of a young Scottie Pippen. His ability to both play-make on offense AND defend any perimeter position lends itself to any number of possibilities.

Prince looking amazing... HE is faster and more explosive than Carroll and he understands the game, he is a good passer for his position and him and bembry looking real solid for you.

Re: De'Andre Bembry already making a name for himself
From a Training camp piece by C-Viv at the AJC:
I think it's only a matter of time before Bembry surpasses Tim Hardaway Jr on the depth chart as primary backup SG. Hell, he might be the primary backup at PG, also in the years to come.
HereBembry opening eyes of coaches, teammates with versatility
ATHENS — DeAndre Bembry got his point across this summer.
The first-round draft pick touted his versatility after the Hawks selected the 6-foot-6 forward with the 21st overall pick this year. Despite his size and position, don’t sleep on his ability to play with the basketball in his hands.
He got a chance to open the eyes of coaches and teammates in recent months that one day there may be such an option. “He’s got a vision, a willingness to pass and a willingness to play unselfishly, as he continues to improve his handle he’ll be better,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “I think he’s a high I.Q. player, a guy who could be a second-side playmaker.”
Bembry, 22, played 101 games at St. Joseph’s and averaged 15.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 36.1 minutes. Last season, he was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.

Knick Fan here
Just wanted to say that I like the two forwards you picked up. I was surprised Prince went so high. but then I remember that Atl still has some SAS philosophies and go for certain kind of players(See Kawhi Leonard)
Hopefully Prince and Bembry can be your Leonard and Kyle Anderson
Good Luck on the Season

HereBembry scores 35 points in D-League assignment game
DeAndre Bembry had an impressive performance in his NBA Development League assignment with a game-high 35 points for the Salt Lake City Stars Thursday night. The Hawks rookie started at guard and was 16 of 22 from the field in a 118-110 road loss to the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
Bembry, the first-round pick, also had six rebounds, six assists, two steals and a highlight worthy block in 35 minutes.

Hoping the young fella can be a contributor come playoff time. He legitimately might be the best non PG playmaker on our roster.

I like the sound of this. I suspect it'll take parting ways with one of the wing players currently in the rotation ahead of him.
His size and playmaking ability lends itself to some serious mismatches.

The initial report was it was going to be a short stint. Tha'ts how the D-League works. Go play a game and come back.
No Millsap tonight either.

Re: De'Andre Bembry already making a name for himself
Interesting development...It appears Bembry may have surpassed Taurean Prince on the depth chart:
HereHad Hardway not been a late inactive, rookie DeAndre Bembry would have been available to play. Fellow rookie Taurean Prince was going to be the inactive player before the late roster adjustment.
The move was based on Bembry’s performance against the Nuggets Friday. Despite playing in an NBA Development League game on Thursday night, Bembry joined the Hawks Friday. He ended up with career-highs in minutes (19), points (9), field goals (4) and rebounds (4).
“He took advantage of his opportunity,” coach Mike Budenholzer said. “He did a lot of things to help us win. His minutes were great. They are both good young players but it’s probably good for Taurean to take a turn as inactive.”

Re: De'Andre Bembry already making a name for himself
The Step BackMy Sophomore Crush: DeAndre’ Bembry
This could be a rough season for the Atlanta Hawks. All that’s left in Atlanta is Dennis Schroder, Kent Bazemore’s big contract and a bunch of youngsters.
Expectations are high that sophomore swingman DeAndre’ Bembry is now poised for a huge season.
What’s not to love about the former St. Joseph’s standout forward? He plays above the rim, can run the floor and has a giant afro that makes him instantly recognizable in his granite gray jersey with volt green highlights. Paying your dues has been part of the player development system in Atlanta, but that might change with the team being in the tank this fall. Bembry’s numbers as a rookie were not that impressive — 9.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists per 36 minutes, 48 percent from the field and just 1-of-18 on 3s — but you would hear rumblings from the coaching staff that they adore the kid out of St. Joe’s. It’ll be interesting to see how he and Prince play off each other at the same wing position. Regardless, the minutes are now there for Bembry to make the leap like Prince did late last season. The wins won’t be as abundant in Atlanta as they have been in the past, but the upside (and hair game) is strong with this Southeastern hoops team. When the going gets rough, you have to appreciate the little things.

While not a lot of scoring I'd say 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists from a rookie SG is pretty damn impressive.
