Just a great battle between Collins and Cheick Diallo.

Collins showing off why he shot 60% in Wake.

Too bad Cheick has to play behind AD, he looks like a stud for the Pelicans

Wow. Collins seems to know where the ball is coming off the rim and reacts to it much quicker than his opponents. He's got the body type of a Tristan Thompson but so much more fluid offensively and with a pretty good looking outside shot. Hmmmm...Perhaps Collins should have been chosen 7th overall...:-) We shall see...I love the start so far. Every play was a highlight. Instincts are great for JC.

Last Summer League Game
No Prince, Bembry or Dorsey(ankle).
John Collins continued to impress, even on his missed dunks.
Isaia played really well this game, filled the stat sheet, niffy passes, shooting etc - I read he wants to play for our DLeague team this year. Will he be or other 2-way player?
Trent Lockett - who was this guy. He played well with Bembry and Prince sitting. Is he a DLeague canditate? @way contract. Isaia goes back overseas?
The Bigs: Stone and Kaba - what I notice is they are capable PnR players, just really young players. I think Stone will be on assignment to the DLeage throughout the season. Kaba still adjusting to speed of game but did some good things. He goes back overseas.

Hawks rookie forward John Collins was named to the Las Vegas Summer League First Team, the NBA announced Monday.

Collins, the first-round pick (No. 19 overall), started all five games for the Hawks and averaged 15.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 23.0 minutes. His field goal percentage of .593 led all players...

Collins had two double-doubles in the tournament and finished with a +/- of plus-36 in the five games.

Not only am I happy for the kid getting this recognition. I'm happy for the franchise getting the press. Kudos all around.

Move SL luv for Collins. Made SI's 2nd team SL squad ...

John Collins’s Summer League was about more than just dunks but, man, did he have a lot of dunks. The Wake Forest product even earned the excellent nickname “John the Baptist” for his ferocious posterizations. While the 19-year-old Collins (15.4 PPG, 9.2 RPG) still needs to fill out, his length, athleticism and ability to run the court helped him pop all week long. After a rough few years in which lots of proven talent has departed in trades and via free agency, the Hawks roster is suddenly in shambles. That sets up nicely for Collins to earn significant developmental time in a low-pressure environment as a rookie.

The Draymond Green Summer League All-Stars
Five versatile players at Vegas who were overlooked in their respective draft classes despite possessing the modern skills to thrive in the NBA

DeAndre’ Bembry, Atlanta Hawks

The summer league all-versatile team needs a big playmaker...look no further than Hawks second-year wing Bembry, who has shown the ability to take advantage of mismatches on offense and play versatile defense — like he’s a poor man’s Andre Iguodala, or potentially a rich man’s Evan Turner. Bembry found himself in the “too good for summer league club” posting 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 26 minutes per game. The no. 21 pick in last year’s draft scored from all levels of the floor, defended guards like Quinn Cook and wings like Caris LeVert, and made plays off the bounce.

Bembry had 13 assists to 16 turnovers. Ignore the numbers. They lie. Bembry frequently passed to open teammates or made nifty cross-court passes that simply resulted in a missed shot, which is the fault of no one. While Bembry does need to tighten his dribble and cut down on flashy plays, his creativity is the gift that makes him who he is. Over the course of a full season with the tanking Hawks, the kiddos will get plenty of developmental minutes this season.

Bembry will be able to pass.
Bembry will be able to defend.
Bembry will be able to make the right play.

The question is whether he will be able to shoot. Only time will tell, but at least the minutes will be there for us to find out while enjoying the rest of his game.
The Ringer

If Bembry can get his jumper to at least a middling level of consistency, he has a long future in this league as a super 6th man. Running point, defending top wings and serving as a jack-of-all trades type of player.

I compared him to Scottie Pippen last summer, but the Iggy/Evan Turner comps might be the most accurate.

I hope he is our backup PG for the next few years.

So, just how young will the 2017-18 Atlanta Hawks be? The answer is, younger, but not as young as one might think. During the 2016-17 NBA season, the Hawks ranked 6th oldest in the league. Given the playing time assumptions asserted for the upcoming season, the Hawks would rank as the 13th youngest team compared to league-wide data for last season, essentially the middle of the pack.

Coach Mike Budenholzer now finds himself in a completely new situation. His coaching staff’s approach to player development tends to shy away from allowing players to go out and play, make mistakes and learn. Instead, the focus is on practice time and individual work with player development coaches. Young players have not been handed playing time, they earn it through a trust that takes time to develop but can quickly be lost.

It will be very interesting to see how the Hawks coaching staff walks the tightrope this season, precariously striving for wins while developing young players.

During Budenholzer’s tenure, first and second year player’s have only accounted for about 12% of Hawks’ playing time. Removing Euroleague veterans Pero Antic and Malcolm Delaney knocks that number down to just 8%.

Former? Hawks still hold his rights and he's 23 years old.
I think he didn't play in SL since he had the FIBA qualifiers coming up.

Was one of those games where I wasn't rooting for him at all. Why'd this performance have to be against Bosnia

Another Hawks overseas prospect.

Interesting to see if these guys ever get invited to Summer League or moved in trade.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
