Don't wanna beat the same drum over and over again, but in my mind, other than Westbrook, Irving is the most overrated player in the league. Both are good players, but public perceives them as superstars. I bet majority here thinks that Irving is better than Hayward, which is laughable when you include defense.
Maybe I'm missing the big picture (for example: this is step one before getting Davis next summer) but in vacuum, other than age, I can't find a single reason why Kyrie would be the 'star' you trade for.
Worst thing for me, on a personal level, is rooting for someone who doesn't have a single trait that fits the so-called Celtics' way. Team first mentality, selflessness, not caring about personal accolades/willing to sacrifice for something bigger... To me, he's the PG version of Kobe, interested only in what's best for Kyrie. Brand, scoring tittles, selling shoes, movies etc.
Then the whole Earth is flat thing.. Hard to take seriously someone who believes in a conspiracy theory that's debunkable in 5 minutes. You think this guy is interested in advanced stats and/or rest science?
Celtics will be good but not because Kyrie is a beast. Sadly, he'll get most of the credit because he'll take the most shots.
BTW, I hope I'm dead wrong on this one and that we can all laugh at my posts in the future. That would mean that Kyrie evolved as a player. I don't like the odds.
This post is spot on. We just saw jimmy butler get traded for a song.
The Celtics had a freaking war chest of assets. They could have traded for ANY player in the league. Easily. They had enough to offer to get ANYONE.
And they locked in on Kyrie? A top ~10 PG at a deep position that just had FIVE guys go in the top 9 picks?
Why not use that war chest to get a defensive centerpiece, a 2way wing, an elite PG instead?

Sorry you couldn't be more wrong. The celtics didn't give up as much as it appears. IT is hurt and on the last year of his contract, his value is not high at all. Jae Crowder is a decent player but he will be coming off the bench in Cleveland. Zizic is unknown and the pick is unknown, the pick may be in the top five but maybe not. That's a war chest?
