Yea but the difference is you aren't "rebuilding 11 months later"
If he bails in that scenario on top of what Irving appears to be doing, you're throwing away a good 90% of everything you've accomplished since 2013.
Ainge would be out the door within the year through his own decision because you cant get fired if you're a Celtic but ainge doesnt have another decade in him to start a complete overhaul.
The NBA isn't that hard to rebuild in. You'd have cap space again eventually and top picks. As a Rockets fan I kinda wish we'd trade Harden and move on from this team that is now failed. There's nothing worse than knowing you aren't rebuilding and also have no chance at a title anymore. A lot of people think that now because Durant is hurt/will leave GS that suddenly the Rockets will have a better shot at winning the west. They've used up their share of excuses and it's time to move on. Stars don't grow on trees but when you've made your run multiple times with multiple cores and come up short it's time to reset the switch.
The Celtics can take that gamble and if it works you'll be glad you did. if you don't get AD, how long are you going to wait before trying to acquire another star? Who will be out there?
It's not that hard to rebuild? I mean, I won't go an look at the amount of teams but I'm pretty sure theres been less than 8 different teams that's won the title since 1980. Its REALLY hard to rebuild.
