If we can grab a guy like Tyus Jones or Fultz or Precious with a minimum contract…..hell yes that is worth the wait. I think Oshai Brissett is better than anyone on SL roster.
Now Springer, Walsh, Baylor and Queta are all locked up and I think Queta at least has the potential to help a lot. Maybe Springer or Walsh can replace Brissett off the bench well enough. However, none of them is likely to be a reliable contributor come playoff time this year.
Dallas got Derrick Jones Jr last year on a minimum and this year seems like more guys like him are going to get screwed out of a fair paycheck due to new salary cap rules. I’d much rather that spot get filled by a legit player than another G-leaguer. If we can get a quality NBA player on a vet minimum then that is option #1 for me.
Sounds nice but DJJ went to Dallas because he was being given a chance to compete for a *starting* position, which he got..he was starting for them in the NBA finals. They had basically no wings when they signed him.
Oubre signed for the minimum w/ Philly because he had a legit chance to start for them - and he did.
Gary Trent jr signed for the min with the Bucks..he'll start for them. Theis signed for the min with pelicans - he'll probably start for them.
Boston is in a vastly different position. Sounds nice in theory to just go ahead, snap your fingers and sign the best available veteran wing to a dirt cheap minimum contract but we have two all-NBA caliber players for wings, plus Hauser. Our top 8 guys are set in stone. Our top 10 guys off last year's team are all back.
Whoever the best available vet FA is, will likely sign somewhere he can get more playing time.
The last guy we signed last summer was Lamar Stevens and Svi.
Last guys we signed the year before that was Griffin, Vonleh and Justin Jackson.
I'm not expecting a big FA signing this summer..
Spots 11-15 aren't gonna make much of a difference on our title chances anyways. You win or lose a title based on how good your top 7 or 8 guys are. So I'm fine with developing our young guys (watson, scheierman, walsh, springer, queta) for those end of bench spots, so we can develop them into players who down the road are as good (or even better) than those vet min FA guys you're clamoring for..
I mean, most of the guys on the list of top available FA right now are basically one phone call away from signing with an overseas team (except for Tyus). Pat Bev jus signed with a team in Israel. Jabari Parker and both Hernangomez brothers and Kendrick Nunn all enjoyed success overseas last season..There were rumors that Theis aas considering signing with an overseas team before he just signed with the Pelicans. Svi was *this* close to signing with a European team last year before he signed with BOS. It's not like there is any guys left in free agency who would be a huge difference maker.
And we're probably the last team that would sign Tyus, since we have more PG depth than basically every team in the league.
Lastly, these bottom of the barrel FA (and their agents) saw what happened last year when Banton and Stevens got way more playing time after being traded from BOS and Brissett says in interviews that he wants to go to a team where he can play more so they don;t want to come here..
Stop being a dream crusher lol
