I wouldn't count on that.

Isn't there supposed to be a big cap jump in 2025-2026 due to a new tv deal or is this no longer happening?

I think the new CBA added the 10% thing. Will see if I can find a link later

You're right that there is a smoothing of 10% but a 10% increase of the cap is significantly higher year over year compared to the 8% increase of the 49 million starting salary Jaylen will make. So if we assume a the 295 contract and 10% yearly increases, by the fifth year, Jaylen will be at 66ish million on a cap of 202 million, or 32.6% of the total. It's really not as damaging as people think.

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. The % of cap lowers but it’s still pretty significant imo. 33% is still going to be 3% more than most players are eligible for. He’ll be higher than any new MAX contract still in the 5th year. Only new supermax contracts could be higher.

You are looking at the first team to win 83 out of 82 games in the regular season, and worried about the BENCH and the PAYROLL. Live it up! Run WILD AND FREE!

Oh he will be making a ton no doubt but he won't be near the highest paid player in the league like he starts and having him and Tatum won't be the back breaker like I feel like people think. Zinger taking that team friendly extension was huge for us as long as he stays healthy.

Why for Boston:
-You avoid having to pay JB (66th in the league last season in BPM) that insane contract which would make him the highest paid player in the league..
-You get a player (OG) who is comparable in talent, comparable in age. OG is a much better defender, has more size/length while being less of a ball stopper, less ball dominant on offense. OG had higher EPM and higher TS% last season than JB..and he comes at a fraction of the cost
-You have more clearly defined pecking order. Tatum is THE 1, Porzingis is THE 2, and OG is THE 3
-Add front court depth with Boucher, who gives us a legit 4th big to back up KP, Rob, Al since all 3 of those guys are old or injury prone. That 4 headed monster up front (with Kornet as 5th big) allows us to load manage and keep everyone fresh/healthy come playoff time

If you're trading JB it's for optimal value. This is not close to it.

JB has 1 year left on his contract, was 66th in the league in BPM and gets injured pretty often..this is good value imo. And I outlined why in my post..

 If Jaylen was 66th at 1.4 where does that place OG who was at .4 ? Not to mention that stats doesnt favor players on teams that they arent first options or primary ball handlers. OG is in no way a comparable talent, not to mention he is also a expiring deal and would be asking for a max contract next summer. So you’d be paying a role player max money. This is a bad return, Boucher doesnt close the gap on value either, not to mention he plays more like a 3/4. What I hate about JB trades is that people are always pointing out what he doesnt give you more so than what he does. People mention his poor passing ability yet few players in the league can create their own shot as well as he does witch keeps defenses honest and punishes teams for doubling JT if they do. Not too mention it allows you to always have a #1 or close to option on the floor at all times.

It wont be but you def wont be able to have two pg making 20 mill a season and Brad will need to start using first rounders again to cheap contributing talent. I have a inkling Brad wanted to move both Brogdan and Smart so he could have resigned Grant to balance out the roster. This team just wasn’t balanced financially.

I don't think Brad had any intention on signing Grant. Dude had too many DNPs to give money too and our front court is far more talented than last year.

For some reason Grant didn't fit Joe's very basic middle school scheme. Which if you look at the player makes no frigging sense. Not surprising. The names they got aren't sexy but they might develop into something during the year. This team is still good enough for a 1 seed but I feel like they'll finish behind Miami and Milwaukee in the regular season. Miami is going to be crazy good with Dame next year. You have to hope for an injury or regression there.

Mehhhh, if Miami lands Dame it will be for most of the rest of their depth. Mid tier team imo. I'd take Milwaukee, Boston, and Cleveland over them

OG can opt out of his deal next year, so basically swapping a top 25 guy for top 50 guy, who could leave next year...

Also, Porzingis was Luka's #2 guy in Dallas and they never got out of the first round...

You cant look at that Dallas team as a comparison to this one. This team has far superior talent

The difference is a million or 2. Still against apron.

When you want to protect the Genius Brad's vision but then you hear him say things like this:

“I can’t really talk about it but it’s been all good discussion,” Stevens said. “We want Jaylen to be here for a long, long time, and we’ve made that clear. We’re looking forward to all sitting down and we have time here. I probably shouldn’t say anything else, but I feel optimistic.”

Not sure how you figure that. As is we are projected WELL under the 2nd apron next year. Unless you're referring to the first apron?

Because Brad knows ball. Jaylen is a top 20 player in the league, why would you not want him for a long time? The jaylen hate on this board gets incredibly silly at times

I don't mind having a player like JB. But not at that money. Not at that BBIQ. And not at that role.

You guys keep calling it hate as if I know this guy personally. My main interest in him is how he can contribute to my favorite team win a title. I think his impact on this team's winning doesn't reflect the amount they'll be paying him soon.

In our position, we should be looking at contracts as percentages of the 2nd apron, not the cap. It’s improbably we’ll be a cap space team for a long, long while to where we need to worry about that. It’s all about building a contending team that’s either below or somewhat reasonably over the 2nd apron. And if we do go over then having certain years you can dip back under to save repeater penalties.

It should also be noted that Brown’s 8% raise is off his first year salary. So to use easy numbers, if he made $10M, he gets an $800K raise to $10.8M. Then the next year, the raise is still just $800K, so now $11.6M. It doesn’t compound.

The cap on the other hand, does compound. So if the cap is $100M, next year it’s $110M. And then the following year it’s $121M.

Again he's a clear cut top 20 player in the league (at worst) as your #2. What type of role do you expect? And he's a supermax level guy. He just is. All 30 teams would give jaylen that contract if they could
