Recap of Jaylen Brown contract situation so far:
The reason Brown wants a no trade clause is that he is fully aware what the size of his contract will do to the Celtica financials over the length of his contract. He understands that he will be the most likely to be moved, if money becomes a problem, because of it. He just wants a say in where he goes when that time comes. If he doesn't have the NTC, then Boston can send him wherever they want, and he can't really do anything about it except pull a Harden/Dame move. Solid reason from him to protect his future and can't blame him at all.
The reason the Celtics don't want to give Brown the NTC is because Brown can pull a Beal move and demand he only go to a certain team. Of course, he could do this without a NTC, like Dame is doing now, but it will make him look like an ass to the fans of all the teams except the fans of the team he wants to go to. If, as with the Beal situation, Brown has a NTC, and only wants one team, then Boston loses major value for an asset they can't afford to lose. This is also solid reasoning from them Celtics to protect their future and can't blame them at all either.
Boston could elect to trade Brown now, and lose major value, because of Brown only having this upcoming season under contract, and he might not resign with the team he is traded to. So, why would a team give up much for basically a rental. Boston could also piss Tatum off by trading Brown now. Also, whatever the outcome, in regard to the NTC for Brown, you can bet will also be demanded by Tatum when his option for a new contract comes up in 2 years.
I have been a strong supporter of resigning Brown, no matter the cost, and deal with the rest down the line. I am beginning to lean to the side of trade him now, and not have this hanging over the heads of the team all season (rip the band-aid off). Brad will need to get Tatum to sign off on it of course. I don't feel that we are going after Dame, because if he truly only wants to go to Miami, then we are trading one problem for another. I believe that Portland would move Dame to Miami today, if they had Jaylen coming back to them. I also believe that Brad is at least looking at Siakam, but not sure if he wants to get him, because he is on the last year of his contract. Rumor has it that Brad is also looking at Saddiq Bey from Atlanta, so it could be the basis of a three-team deal there. Who knows?
