Smart, in my opinion is a great guy to have on a value contract, but not someone worth overpaying. 3/$34mil-4/$46mil would be a fair contract in my opinion.
Celtics would match all of those, IMO.
Were 8-9M under the tax and one Yabusele dump away at that point— the deal doesnt feel painful enough for us to not match.

Yes we would. I think folks are sometimes forgetting to take into account just how mid-range-contract-sparse our payroll is. We'd love to get [Smart at 8-9mil / year] I'm sure, but [Smart at 11-12mil / year] is better than [not Smart], both because he contributes at least in the vicinity of that pay grade, and because it gives us a very useful salary for matching for the next couple of years.
I always say, "make decisions down the roster, not up". I don't want to have to give Yabusele away for nothing while there's still the slightest possibility of finding a way to not take a zero on that asset, but, I'd rather take a zero on Yabs than on Smart.
