For this team, I think I'd rather have Smart and a lottery pick than either of Jrue and Turner.
We as fans need to look at this as a GM not with a punchdrunk head from making the Conference Finals where we avoided a MIL team.
We did just lose to the Heat who were the 5th seed and...
Jaylen Brown 23 years old
Jayson Tatum 22 years old
Guys... our guys are 2-3 years away from entering our prime. Everything we do should be in mind of making our run 2-3 years from now. Not now. Not today.
Unless again you're trading for an MVP guy like a Harden.
I will definitely not spend what it takes to get Harden and let's be real, unless he adjusts his style of play, Harden ain't winning ****, regardless of how many points he can score.
Sure, but a Harden & Tatum combination is good enough to be a contender. Or at least it is when you consider it will be Harden playing with 3 of the best 3 and D guys in the NBA in Smart, Brown, Tatum.
All 3 of our core players go supernova off the ball. Tatum can do so with an pick and roll ISO play but as we saw in the playoffs he still needs to work on that when it's the playoffs and not regular season defense... but off the ball Brown and Tatum are some of the best 3 and D players in the entire league. And if you can force Smart off ball you take away all his negatives on offense and open up all his positives. It 100% maximizes Smart. Then you add that Smart and Brown both showed they can guard 1-4 at elite levels.
It's no LeBron and AD, but it's a team with at least a reasonable shot to win a ring. Of course matchups, injuries, and which ring chasing vets we get (we'd need Ibaka to sign) play a role. But that's good enough to contend next year and the next few years with the roster as is.
