For those keeping track at home: Damian Lillard cleared waivers yesterday, as we knew he would.
Lillard is now an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

Dame to Boston. Simons to Utah for Kessler and 4 2nd round picks! Come on!

Not sure why anyone at this point would want Smart back on this team.

I would. He defends. And I think Tatum and Brown would like to see him back. Simons for Smart doesn't save a huge amount of money, but neither does Simons for Vucevic.
At some point the Nets may clear their cap holds and have enough space to take Simons for nothing. That's my hope, although if that deal works it will be with about 10 cents to spare. It's probably a pipe dream.

Do you think JT and Brown liked when he lead the team with the most 3s taken and regularly shot like 3-14 from there? Does he even defend anymore? Smarts defensive rating was 116 last season which is considered pretty bad.

Salary reduction.
He has one year left. We would be able to reduce salary by $6M with the trade.
That allows us more flexibility .

I have a feeling Brad might over value Hauser like he did with Smart.
Last season during training camp there were two opposing camps about the value of Lonnie Walker. I think coming off a championship there was hubris. He could have diversified our offense just enough (he's a walking bucket) so we don't blow those two big leads against the Knicks. He was a good playoff performer for the Lakers when they beat the Warriors a couple seasons ago.

Hauser is paid $6m less than he is worth for that production and shooting.
He is on a value contract, like PP. you can't just get rid of him .

Since next year is a lost year anyways, I would rather watch Simons this upcoming year than Smart (if that is the trade you are thinking of)

Tillman and Simons
for Smart
Niang to the Jazz
The end of the day, I don't think they'll resign Simons, and they would have a better chance of retaining Smart on a team-friendly deal.
You would be about 680k away from the tax line.

I'm not sure if I have the stomach to take in Smart on a retooling year.
Really intrigued by this Lillard thing. Normally I don't gush over declining star talent, but to get one who is largely subsidized by one of your conference competitors is provocative.

I want to know when people started caring so much about defense, when specifically talking about Simons.
I remember how I was the only one harping on how the second half of those nyks games were lost because someone was BBQ chicken every time down the court. They were out there but defended like they weren’t.
I was led to believe if you can score it can make up for defense, like IT4 and Pritchard. Even though Pritchard lacks offense and defense at times in the playoffs.
It’s not about whether Simons can defend or not, it’s seems to be because he’s not one of the faves! Anybody else that does well on one end are a god, others get nit-picked to death.
I haven’t watched many videos on Simons, people keep saying he’s getting traded, I don’t want to waste my time. I don’t know enough to say whether I like him or not. I do know him being a poor defender is being overblown because he’s an outsider (other things I’m picking up on).
Vuc can’t defend a chair, but we should trade Simons for him, in a supposedly down season? Not keep the 26yo with more potential to be better in q different environment? When we’re not even saving money??
Love Smart, but we shouldn’t be trading assets for him. Can bring him back for a song when his contract ends. Vet minimum stages at this point. If he gets more 26 season, congrats to him and his agent. He’s not nearly what he was when I watched him on the court with the Wiz and Griz, though injured a lot.
Not your post, but this thread in general.

Re: Holy Offseason I Can’t Believe it’s July FA/Trade/Waiver Thread
FWIW, I currently have us as the 8 seed:

If we dump Simons and don't get anything good in return for him (like just cap relief and a cheap vet/young development piece) then I'd probably move us down a couple more spots..
Then we're what, like the 10 seed in the play in tournament? Mine as well tank towards the end of the season for better lottery odds..
But if we keep Simons or we trade Simons for a solid big, I could see us maybe ending up as like a 6 or 7 seed. So then probably not tanking and getting a pick later in the 1st round..

I hope the media says we’re going to be terrible too. Not saying you are.
I hope everyone lets them know they are lottery bound. I hope every word that comes out is saying how bad they will be!!
Time to activate the dog in jb, white, and the pups!! Like Brad mentioned, chip on shoulders!!
