It's my birthday too.

It’s not really your birthday unless you’re getting hammered with your favourite Aussie.

Confirmed by multiple sauces.

I will make a pit-stop from my highway to hell to your continent someday soon.

Whoa, seriously? Did you know I love the Sugarcubes or is it just a happy coincidence? Pretty sure I've never discussed them on here. I love Bjork too but those three albums are classic as ****. Thanks for making this birthday/birthday month even better than it's been, that song puts a huge smile on my face.

Sometimes it feels like whenever things are going really well in my life, the Celtics suck and vice versa. I almost wish I could be more upset with the team than I am right now  . Almost.

Haha, no, I don't believe we have. It was the first song I thought of and usually do around birthdays. They were/are a great band. I had the privilege to see them at Great Woods (I don't know what the **** it's called now) back in in 1989 with Public Image LTD and New Order. What a show. And I just looked, and it was July 10, which is my son's birthday, although not until 2013, haha. I can't believe it was 30 years ago :o Here are the setlists, one of the reasons I love the interweb, it acts like a memory for me. Glad I could add a little to your Birthday month.

He is as good an iso player as anyone for 1 possession.

Kyrie with the ball in his hands at the end of a playoff game... I’ll take my chances.

Unfortunately we're probably already down by 10 at that point because he plays no defense.

Tons of great teams have defensive liabilities. Rockets targeted Steph every play down during the playoffs.

I certainly did. You just don't get concerts like that anymore. Especially for the price. I believe I paid $20-30 per ticket.

So Kyrie plays no defense is back?

Despite him being a plus defender?

If he's a plus defender then stop complaining about getting torn up by Kemba and actually defend him. That's his matchup.

bucknersrevenge wrote:The media pundits and fans of other teams are so eager to get Kyrie off this team. I wonder if Kyrie doesn't factor that into his decision at the end of the year. Sure he could resign because we trade for AD giving us legit title hopes. He could resign because his father loved his time in Boston. He could resign because he still believes in Wyc, Danny and Brad as franchise leaders. He could resign because he's never had a better season statistically and showed people that he could be a complete lead guard. But..he could just resign to shut all these people up that assume that he's gonna duck and run. Shut up all these people that assume he can't lead a team to a title. Shut up all these people that assume he wants the bright lights of NYC. Shut up all these people that assume Boston is better without him. He could do it for those reasons too.

It's really bad.

I know plenty of Celtics fans who love Kyrie, mostly those in real life though. The internet wave though are pretty awful.

I would say on twitter and facebook, 95% of Knicks fans I have seen love Kyrie and support him. Which pains me. Also actually pains me that I have had better conversations about Kyrie/Celtics with NY fans and a Pacers fan I already have known for a few years online along with a Cavs fan I started to talk to this year from time to time.

Offline I do know a few NY fans though too due to proximity to NY.

Then I would see loads of "Celtics fans" who bash the guy non stop as if he has committed a real crime or something that should be held against him. I have had really a tough time reasoning with the Celtics portion with Kyrie who are already set on blaming him for everything that happens and scream to me about leadership and the Celtics way which sounds like a cult thing.

Also bizarre that when the Celtics this year do beat one of the teams without Kyrie (mostly it's often a lesser team) it's used against him fiercely. Raptors have won plenty without Kawhi, Pacers without Oladipo......but they don't seem to get quite the hate.

It's pretty bizarre. I can't say I am completely pleased with Celtics fans this year. I know expectations were higher but you can't always assume it's going to be handed to you in sports either or that you are entitled.

My folks are Celtics fans though who have never once blamed Kyrie for struggles. They often point to coaching this year.

Well I am not a coach, but I would hope they would look into Smart defending the best offensive player of an opposing team.

Kinda hard to score 30 points if you are Kyrie and also defend Kemba from scoring his 30.

When Kyrie plays the Warriors over the years, usually it's Klay who has the job of Kyrie and not Curry for example.

Also in the two Celtics/Warriors games this year Curry was out there a lot when our starters were on the bench. To me that would have been a time to put Smart on Curry more since Rozier clearly could not handle him. The game in January for example, Curry flat out took our bench and murdered them.

lol yep you have told me. It must be painful.

I am close enough to NY by drive that some of them trickle around where I live now. And I work now with a guy from NY originally.

They are mostly Knicks/Giants fans. They LOVE the idea of Kyrie. And it is painful since so many Celtics fans are like "But Rozier and IT man........thats Celtics heart." *face palm*

I mean I am still trying to grasp what a true Celtic is supposed to be. Maybe I am not old enough at 25. But I also know this isn't 1965.

My dad for example is older but doesn't have anything against Kyrie, but he hates Anthony Davis for some reason since he has seen enough for him to believe Davis is a diva who is too embedded into Lebron's world.

These segments on tv........all the media crap. Some do watch it and get brainwashed.

I remember when Kyrie said on February 1st in NY that the media can destroy locker rooms with their story lines.

No. Age has nothing to do with it. In my early 30s and I'll give you the facts: a true Celtics player wins championships. The only exceptions: when one passes on as part of the sport/franchise. Rest in peace Len and Reggie.

I would think a “true Celtic” is a player who embraced the city and tradition, and also had the city embrace them. A player who gave his all each and every night on the court and brought a certain level of success to the franchise. I take no pleasure saying this to you, but I do think IT is a true Celtic.. lol.

IT is a true homie, sure, one that no one will remember in 40 years when people still discuss Mugsy Bogues as the shortest NBA player ever, Spudd Webb's dunk contest still airs in All Star game compilations and JJ Barea's finals/playoffs games are rerun regularly.

It's not really that debatable. A true Celtic has to at least be remembered by fans down the line. Whenever older people discuss lesser known players (on here or otherwise), they are still almost entirely guys who helped win at least one championship in some capacity. That said, I will admit that you could still make an argument for your point if he stayed here for a few years longer than he did. But he didn't.

What do "city" and "tradition" even mean anymore? All the championship eras after the first are incredibly different with very different personalities and guiding principles.

True Celtics players are winners who **** ball out and win it all. Not players who probably don't even show up on a Google search for "best short NBA players".

Well to be fair Curry tears up pretty much every team in the league. And I completely agree that I'd have Marcus try to check Kemba but I'm just saying Kyrie has no place to be complaining about the defense unless he's going to be the one to try to make a difference. If he goes to Brad and says let me defend Kemba and he shuts him down but in doing so doesn't have the energy to score 30 then he can talk. Until then though I don't need to hear Kyrie blame other guys for defensive issues.

He's a great player but he's not a leader. Al should really be the guy who is the leader but he seems pretty content to just sit back and do nothing.

Maybe this story deserves a thread of its own? 8-) Sounds like it might be a more compelling story than whatever the color of Kyrie's blood is at this point.

In any case, hope it all works out for you, Truth. I remember that song feeling strangely like an anthem, a badge, and a wound, sometimes all at once. It was a part of the soundtrack to the early 90's San Francisco years for me.

And, not to further derail the thread, but I also dug the Frente version, which strips the song down to the basics and reveals a bit of how good New Order's songs were without all the heavy club production.

I get your point, I feel we just differ in terminology. I feel you're describing what it means to be a legendary player within a franchise. I don't know if Ray Allen is a true Celtic. Or Kevin Love is a true Cavalier (if that's even a thing, lol). And if the Celtics lost that 2008 finals to LA, I don't think that prevents Pierce from being a "True Celtic". I think that title put him into the convo of franchise legends.

But this is neither here nor there...
