Danny and Brad need to have a face-to-face with him so they can get a read on him. Until someone reports that they're meeting then I'm going to remain skeptical that anything gets done. If a meeting leaks that's when I expect things to really start poppin' off.

It's all posturing. I hope Pop and Buford call him out on his bluff.

There's no way that a guy coming off an "injury" that caused him to miss 95% of a season is going to miss out on collecting $20M.

I agree. Also, if he did purposely sit out a year, wouldn't that mean that he didn't fulfill his contact, so basically he would still be under the Spurs control for another season? I suppose he could suit up and just be a malcontent. My memory sucks but the one situation that comes to mind that was similar was Marbury and the Knicks a few years ago.

I've been skimming through the CBA to see if I could find anything on that and haven't yet.

At this point if I were SA I would just hold on to him unless the Lakers give a godfather offer.

No one else is going to trade anything of much value for him right now. Maybe a fringe contender at the deadline gives them a deal they can live with just to have him down the stretch, once he proves he's healthy.

Much better off getting Ingram.

There's no market for Marcus Smart. Maybe half of what he's asking and there'll be a market. 7-8 mil. His agent's calling around n finding no takers. If he was so hot, he would've been signed by now. Reality is setting in for him and his agent. If someone gives him 10 million, they're dumb.

I agree. They did them too dirty. If they aren’t getting a great offer, whatever deals out there will still be there at the deadline. In the meantime, make Kawhi give up $15m and tank for a better pick while you kill the Lakers playoff seeding.

Honestly? The Kings pick is too much. About as valuable as Jaylen.

Unless he is being involved in a S&T.

There's no market because he's restricted. I'm worried that he'll take the QO.

It would be breach of contract, so presumably they could get back his $20M salary, plus any other remedies available under the CBA, but the contract would be broken, so Kawhi wouldn’t be under their control for another year.

Kawhi would most certainly say his quad isn’t healed, and any other motive to sit out is just media speculation, so the Spurs would likely have the burden to show Kawhi isn’t sitting out for injury. Not sure how high that standard of proof is.

The fact he's restricted wont stop teams from signing him to a sheet and testing the Celtics. There's legit no market for him. The only possible team is the Pacers as they lost on Aaron Gordon sweepstakes.
Good assessment:

I think Danny is keeping it quiet on that end (naming the players being offered) in case any deal falls through to avoid disgruntled players on the team.

Lower your demands Spurs. It is either Jaylen Brown ,the kings pick and memphis pick is off the table, or the picks and no jaylen brown. Pick one.

I'm ready for our inevitable pivot to a series of Anthony Davis threads.
