- Wouldn't touch Barret with a stick at all. His defense isn't great, and the chucking mentality (along with a 66% FT) is bad. The only value he has, at least if it was my team picking, is trade value. Trade down and get another pick in the way.
- Hunter is damm solid and really underhyped. Top-5 for me. But we don't have a chance at him. High floor (Ariza like), though will need to continue to work to get to his medium potential (Otto Porter Jr.) and have a crazy development to reach mx potential (Kawhi-like).
- I'm starting to be sold on Morant, especially his passing, court awareness and leadership. But the shot looks iffy, and the frame is a real concern, he does not have wide shoulders, so I don't think he'll be able to add that much more strength and weight.
- Cam Reddish won't slip because of pure high school hype and "hyped" potential, but the guy does not even belong in the lottery.
- Bruno Fernando is a keeper. First pick we should make if he is available. The guy is a beast (greek-god built like, I stole that reference), has shot some threes with a good shooting form, is a monster on the glass, and though he is not a point guard nor Al-Horford level, last games he's executed some passes out of the post that are really interesting to see from a big his size.
- Herro will slip I think to the 20s picks. I think we should pick him up if we can. Potential to be a really good secondary creator/ball handler with great shot and had displayed a wide range of pull-ups moves that make me confident on his shot translating. Defense is a question mark, but worth the risk if you are drafting for a bench spark. Could be also Nik Stauskas thoughm where the first years in the league the athleticism and fast pace are too much for him to handle.
- In the second round there are multiple gems hidden. This year, and tied with who will declare, we might see more players establishing in the league in the second round than in the 10-20 range, specially if GMs fall in the potential freshman hype train.
- Kabangele, Konate, Thybulle, Agbaji, Okeke, Schofield, PJ Washington (I doubt he slips given his recent games), Cam Johnson would be amazing pick ups in the second round.
Great post.
I am so low on Barrett, too, but see him going #2 due to his raw stats and teams needing wings. I dont see him performing well at all in the pro’s, and his selfishness is a giant red flag —during Duke’s loss to Gonzaga earlier this season, Zion didnt touch the ball over the last few minutes, largely due to Barrett, which told me everything I needed to know about him.
Reddish will go lottery and will suck in the NBA. He can kill it in an empty gym and some team needing a wing will fall in love with his pre-Duke tape and convince themselves that he was just a bad fit and got screwed by Barrett and Zion committing after him. Dude is too soft and raw and I wouldnt draft him in the first round.
Morant is going to get overhyped by people who had never seen him play [Culver too, FWIW]. His concerns still exist — hes a two foot jumper and isnt nearly as athletic off one foot and his pull-up shooting sucks. His pasing vision is what I like most and I expect him to explode in this regard when playing with better talent. Likely an unrealistic trade-up option, though I will definitely try because I think Kyrie is gone.
I love Hunter. He’s built for the NBA. Can come in day one as a 3&D and will contribute. Has some very nice upside as well. I do think we could cash in picks to trade up for him, especially if the MEM pick converts.
