60 wins seems to go under the radar....

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Sun Apr 12, 2009 1:06 pm

They’ve won 11 of their last 12 games, including six straight, without the injured Garnett, Leon Powe and Brian Scalabrine.

The C’s are, in a sense, flying under the radar today; LeBron James and the Lakers are now the big dots on the screen.

The Celtics’ road to 60 wins has gone largely unnoticed nationally.

“It felt like we only won 40 or 45 games,” Allen said. “There wasn’t a lot of hoopla surrounding what we did this year, and we lost two or three games here or there, but I looked up and we were winning like 55 games.

“Every year 55 or 60 wins is a great season by NBA standards. That’s the standard we set for ourselves last year, and we expect great things out of ourselves. We continually want to find ways to get better.”

Nowhere, perhaps, has that standard shown itself more than during the last 12 games.

“It’s been phenomenal for us,” coach Doc Rivers said yesterday. “When we started getting all of these injuries and then Orlando beat us, I didn’t read anywhere that people had given us the second seed.

“But we didn’t back up. It says that we’re a deep team. I’m amazed at how much our bench keeps getting criticized with all of this.”

We may now....with KG and Powe being back next week....have the best bench in the NBA. 8-)

60 wins means alot, back to back 60 win seasons are a big deal, 60 wins means you dominated most of the league, you won basicly 3 out of 4 times (i know not quite there are 82 games not 80, but still) to do it without KG for almost a 4th of the season is impressive, we definitly could have matched last seasons total had we stayed healthy.

Only a few teams have had back to back 60+ win seasons. Something to be proud of for sure.

Orlando's remaining games are at Milwaukee and at home to Charlotte.

A dozen NBA teams over the last 10 seasons have won 60 games. Three of those teams - 2008 Celtics, the 2003 Spurs and the 2000 Lakers - went on to win NBA titles.

Interesting trivia

With 10 days left in the regular season, there is a strong chance four teams will finish with at least 60 wins for just the second time in league history.

The only time it's been done: 1997-98, when the Bulls and Jazz won 62 games and both the Lakers and SuperSonics won 61.

This season, the Lakers are sitting right at 60, and the Cavaliers already have 61. Even with Kevin Garnett shut down until the playoffs start, the Celtics (58-19) will win two of their remaining five games. The Magic have six games in which to get four more wins. With the Knicks, Grizzlies, Nets and Bucks on the schedule, it should be a lock.

The 1997-98 NBA title went to the Bulls, with Michael Jordan pushing off Bryon Russell to free himself to hit the game-winner in clinching Game 6.

On four occasions have three teams won at least 60: 1972-73 (Celtics, Bucks, Lakers), 1980-81 (Celtics, 76ers, Bucks), 1995-96 (Bulls, Magic, Sonics) and 1996-97 (Bulls, Jazz, Heat).

Is there any hope for teams that don't win 60 when there are three or more 60-win teams?

Thanks to the 1972-73 Knicks, yes. With a backup forward named Phil Jackson making a contribution, the 57-win Knicks beat the 68-win Celtics in the Eastern finals and the 60-win Lakers in the NBA Finals.

That 68-win Celtics team owns a dubious distinction: most regular-season wins without a title. At least they got to the conference finals. The 2006-07 Mavs won 67 games and got dumped in the first round.

Worst-Champs - The 1994-95 Houston Rockets were the lowest seeded team to win the NBA Finals. The defending champs were the sixth seed in a strong Western Conference that season. In 1995, the Rockets swept the Orlando Magic (57-25 WL record) in four games. The Rockets beat the Utah Jazz (60-22 WL record) three games to two; the Phoenix Suns (59-23 WL record) in seven games and the league's 1995 MVP David Robinson led San Antonio Spurs (62-20 WL record) in six games to reach the finals, becoming the only NBA team in history to beat four teams with 50 or more wins in the playoffs. That season the Rockets were 5-0 in games when they faced playoff elimination, living up to their nickname "Clutch City."

^Those Knicks only beat the C's in the ECF because Hondo had a separated shoulder and he played left-armed...and the C's *still* almost won!!

60 wins and we get NO respect from anyone...let's use it as motivation...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Looked at the numbers, and only 1 other team has won 60+ games in back to back seasons in the last 10 years (dallas mavericks 2005-2007 - lost in the 06 finals, elimnated 1st round in the 07 playoffs)

Are you surprised that we've largely gone unnoticed this season, despite our injuries and the fact that as defending champs, every team guns for us?

The media HATES Boston and is too busy fellating Kobe, Lebron and DWade to notice anything else happening in the league? I'd love to knock out MIA and CLE and then take out the Fakers again for another championship.

If I'm the Celtics right now, I'd play the "no respect" card to the fullest. It worked quite well for the Pats for several years.

I have never seen a defending champion who wins 60 games in the NBA the next season be written off so easily as a contender for the title then these Boston Celtics. No respect.

I hope the Celtics prove them all wrong again. :D

62-20!!!! With a banged up roster (and star in KG) and getting screwed by the refs out of 4-6 victories...and we are written off...

Let's make these freak media people pay!!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
