They're banking on the new stadium providing much higher attendance numbers, however in 2003 (when they last won world series) they only drew 1,303,214 people good for 28th in the league and at most had 1,852,608 in a season in 2005. I think if they sign Pujols they'll easily get over 2,000,000 this season but the odds of that sustaining are doubtful. They are really hoping that by spending this money that will get people in seats for the next 10 years, but I could see this going terrible fast.

I hope they aren't banking on merchandise sales, those new uniforms are heinous.

I agree, that they most likely can't fill the seats. But where is the $ coming from ?

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports that Hanley Ramirez does not want to play third base and wants to be traded if he can't play shortstop.
The Marlins seem to be under the assumption that Ramirez will be a good soldier and move to the hot corner, but it might not be that simple. President of baseball operations Larry Beinfest has given no indication that he's planning to deal the shortstop, but it sounds like Hanley might force his way out. Stay tuned.

Why are we only hearing about teams interested in Jair and Prado that have nothing we need or are unwilling to part with the pieces that would help? I am also still hearing that we are looking for a 2nd option at SS though they are going to give the rookie a chance. I don't really get the direction, just hope we have a good season next year. March will be hear before you know it.

Nate going home perhaps? Good for him. Wish him the best.

If the Marlins land Pujols, I will not be happy.

That would be nice!

I expect Hanley to eventually agree to play 3rd.

$220 million for Albert Pujols! He wants the Cards to match it.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals made a new offer to Albert Pujols Tuesday.
Cards general manager John Mozeliak conceded that it's probably fair to suggest the ball is now in Pujols' court. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the Marlins' offer to Pujols was for 10 years and $220 million and that the Cards have been asked to match the deal. St. Louis reportedly has offered him a nine-year deal around $200 million, so it would be a pretty big jump if they did match the Marlins' proposal.

Miami also likes Wandy Rodriguez.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Marlins are interested in the Astros' Wandy Rodriguez.
Of course they are. The Marlins, in addition to their pursuit of Albert Pujols, have C.J. Wilson and Mark Buehrle on the back burner. If they fail to sign either of those tow left-handers, perhaps then they'll make a run at Rodriguez. The Astros reportedly have told teams that they will not eat any of Wandy's remaining contract. Knobler says the Marlins have also inquired on the A's Gio Gonzalez.

Miami ownership seems to have lost their minds. But the fans of the Fish have to be loving it! :-) Good for them. They have endured a lot of crap. Oh, and they either suck or win a WS - go figure.

Mets agree to terms with reliever Jon Rauch and are close to trading Pagan to Giants for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez.

The Marlins have stopped their pursuit of Pujols because they expect that he's going to resign with the Cards, they will however pursue another Superstar first Baseman: that being Prince Fielder. This stopped the Fish from making a big mistake contract wise.

Congrats to Fish for getting Buerhle. Good for them they are out on Pujols. Do they stay afte CJ still? God, I hope not. And worse, does this mean they get Fielder now? I would rather they got Pujols vs Buerhle and Fielder. Crap, they are building a formidable team and Fielder may put them in the game for the possible frontrunner.

Report now is that Marlins are NOT going after Prince. Rather, they have Buerhle, and want to add CJ Wilson on top. Really focused right now on pitching.

Glad he's out of the NL.

Insane money. But given his age, best he goes to the AL. He will have to DH his last 3 years for them most likely. No way Cards would pay that kind of money.

Just glad Pujols and Wilson didn't go to Miami or NYY.
