Steph with only 4 1st team all NBA nods

Post#1 » by triple_threat » Sun Jun 26, 2022 3:41 am

Currently tied (with 13th others) for 27th most 1st team all NBA. Doesn’t seem like he can ever crack the top 15 in this area if he adds more.

For those that argue he’s the best PG ever and one of the greatest ever, how can he only have 4 1st team all nba nods in his own era?

the records he has accrued and the legacy he leaves behind have nothing to do with "was he a 1st team nba'er".

"the splash bros" didn't become a thing until 2012,,, and gsw won their first ring a few years later, about when curry started scoring in the upper 20s, and he's only been talked about as a goat guard in the last few years.

so you chop his career down to the last several years and i think 4x as an all nba'er is a lot

i have no prob with the last several years http://www.espn.com/nba/history/awards/_/id/44

The answer here is simple:

Because the people voting were wrong, repeatedly underrating Curry's performance. This isn't me coming in after the fact and saying they must have been wrong, this is something that's been pretty obvious to a lot of us since '12-13 when David Lee indefensibly got named all-star over Curry as the Warriors' star.

In general any argument that's based on accolades like this, remember you're just asking "How can you think X when other people who had voting credentials thought something else?", rather than actually having a conversation about basketball.

because i literally couldn’t care about that stuff. i have no idea how many times lebron was 1st team. or jordan. or whoever. 1st team is such a boring accolade that is completely useless.

He is only an 8-time all star and the times he wasn't 1st team All NBA he was either 2nd team or 3rd. He sacrificed his stats playing alongside Durant.

All nba 1st team doesn’t really mean much honestly - this isn’t a knock on curry

Bill Russell only made 3 All-NBA First Teams.

curry is a very late bloomer. its hard to crack in all time. just compare him to doncic he will get surpassed in a yr and currys heading retirement.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

All-NBA is a nice honor but people put way too much stock in it. Voters get it wrong all the time (e.g. obviously Devin Booker was never 1st team all NBA, what a joke).

Remember this is a media voted award, some of these idiots you can hear their reasoning on their podcasts or on ESPN that are also full of terrible takes.

Kendrick Perkins has votes. Let that sink in. He voted Booker higher in the MVP voting than Giannis

How many of the players with more 1st team All NBA odds have 2 regular season MVPs, one which was unanimous? That along with 4 titles. I don't think this matters much. It's just nitpicking.

A couple years he missed games and voters voted damian lillard 1st team over him while NEVER actually believing that dame was a better player. It was based on the regular season.

A lot of people have KG has a top-15 player and he only has 4 1st Team selections; only 9 overall selections in 21 seasons. But there are other data points that support such a high valuation for KG, particularly RAPM which rated KG as a top-5 player in 7 different seasons. You have to look at the player's entire CV.

Top-50 player all-time, at best. Counting accolades based on fan and media voting is the best way to evaluate a player's legacy.

Curry being the man is debatable, Klay on the other hand sacrificed stats.

none of the greats except lebron cared about mvp or first team. when you boil it down they're just polls

Curry got a late start. The Curry that we know today first appeared in 2013-14. That's when he made his first All-Star team and first All-NBA team. So Chef Curry has really only been around for 8 seasons and he's an 8x All-NBA player.

That's actually impressive.
