I'm afraid if the Kings manage to nab Wiggins somehow, there is a chance that Wiggins may revert back to Minny Wiggins. Wiggins thrived within a concrete structure like the Warriors. Sacramento is the opposite of that. Unless we are banking that coach Brown and his staff can keep Wiggins locked in, it's hard to project how Wiggins play in Sacramento.
I would be all for it if we get the Warriors version of Wiggins.
What would the Warriors want for Wiggins? HB & an asset?

Re: THE Off-Season Thread 2022-23
There was a report that Kevon Looney was a player that will be a target for the Kings.
GPII is an UFA. Both Looney & GPII played a big role with the Warriors, defensively.
If the Kings manage to nab those defensive players, then, that would be something to be excited about, imo.

Re: THE Off-Season Thread 2022-23
You would just have to pay both over $10 million a year.
Looney hasn't made much money so the first 8-figure salary could entice him.
GP2 hasn't made any money so he has to think about getting paid.
But don't the Kings have a lot of money committed to the 4 and 5 position? If you can't dump Holmes' salary, you going to pay Looney another $10 million plus?
Also are there enough minutes for Davion and GP2? On top of minutes for the other guard?
I think GP2 was effective playing at most 20-25 minutes. Maybe not even that much. I want to see which team pays over $10 million for that. He scored okay in some games because he's a monster finisher. But he really depends on someone else to get him open looks or get the ball to him for dunk and layup opportunities.

Yeah, the Kings need to move contracts around to make it work.
Fox
GPII
Wiggins
Sabonis
Looney
You have Brown preaching defense-first and play transition game. You need everyone in that starting 5 to lock in defensively.
It's a nice thought process but I don't think any of this will happen lol
Getting all of those pieces will be very difficult and expensive imo

I likeo Looney but in today's nba I'd much rather target OPJ. Sabonis is gonna play 35mpg, we don't need a backup center making 10-12mil. Jones at 3-5mil is fine. Let's put the money into wings!

Re: THE Off-Season Thread 2022-23
I think our biggest need is a 6'4"+ 3&D guy that can start at the two and log some minutes at the three in smaller lineups. Pretty much what we wanted DDV, Holiday and/or Terence Davis to be for us. DDV brings a lot of energy and intensity but was not at all a good shooter and made terrible decision(s) almost every game. Meanwhile, Holiday just sucked and Davis is super streaky, but his good moments are pretty good. I can't really see an FA that provides that and I'm not huge on the OPJ (too oft-injured), Oubre (I don't like the way he plays the game), GPII (not reliable enough of a shooter), or Wiggins (would love it, but agree with the concerns about leaving the GSW system).
The single most important thing this offseason, in my mind, is to turn Holmes + ?? (depending on trade target) into that starting shooting guard. Holmes doesn't fit on the team anymore but is on a team friendly contract and hopefully hasn't had his trade value completely wiped out after last season.

Re: THE Off-Season Thread 2022-23
Wiretap suggests Collins is 100% done in ATL. This is why I cautioned against overpaying for him during the draft. I think ATL is desperate to clear that cap sheet (its ugly) 154.5 million including Griffin. They have an avenue to save 16 million by waiving Gallo which I anticipate will happen in the next few days. But you are still talking 138 million with only 9 players on the roster.
Then we talk about suitors for him. Again the list is very short, and we have no idea what those teams are willing to give and if they can even provide them cap relief.
I'm not sure he makes sense in Sac with Murray here now, but if Monte still wants him id only do it for super cheap.
Brooklyn out: Philly 2023 1st
Brooklyn in: Holmes into TPE
ATL out: Collins
ATL in: Holiday, Lyles, 2nds from Kings, Philly 2023 1st
Sac out: Holiday, Lyles, Holmes, 2nds
Sac in: Collins
Maybe I'm crazy and other teams are offering more than this. But I don't see Collins with much value on his current contract. This gives ATL 15 million more in savings, fills out 2 more roster spots, and then allows them to use the MLE if they wanted to while still saving money. I imagine they would target Kyle Anderson because the rumors have been they want defense badly. Maybe they could find a taker for Huerter to save even more money?
Capela/OO
Anderson/Lyles/Johnson
Hunter/Griffin
Bogdan/Holiday
Trae/Delon
Improved defense, tons of savings, bringing them to a reasonable payroll in the 120s by time they fill out the roster.

Re: THE Off-Season Thread 2022-23
Barnes is no longer a part of the timeline and needs to be moved for value. I am of the sincere hope that they are able to get something done to pick up Collins. He fits the timeline and a lot that we need in the front court even with the addition of Murray. The depth and established vet presence is important as we look to move upward now. A lotto protected pick would be worthwhile in that scenario and I believe we could clear enough salary to give Atlanta some relief now and future. It could be expanded also as a three team deal possibly with Charlotte or another team that has interest on Holmes.
Jones on a friendly contract is fine as b/u Center and there are small lineups as well in that case. And don’t forget that Queta is very promising as well and still under his cheap deal. He just needs to develop.
I feel that Monty went really hard for a long time to get DDV here and you all need to be prepared to have him be resigned as the starting SG. I also feel that he was still playing into shape on the recovery from the injury after he got here and we haven’t seen him at full ability yet and next to Fox and Sabonis instead of as a b/u. Let’s wait and see how much he costs and if it’s worth it. Could also be a part of a s & t if there is a better get for us and another team that is interested.
There’s still a lot of off-season to go and a bit of time before FA so it should be interesting.

I would be pissed if Barnes is still on the roster at opening night.
Monte needs to trade Barnes during this offseason.
If the Kings let Barnes walk for nothing at the end of next season....

I think the Collins thing ended with Murray. I haven't seen Sacramento mentioned post draft. It makes me wonder what the original plan was, trading for Collins and doing something else with the 4th pick? We'll never know. But I think what stopped it was Atlantas asking price. Barnes straight up was fantasy land. Kings were mentioned to try to get him not using the 4th pick including all else they could practically trade IMO
I'm not sure Keegan can consistently play the SF in this league

Unfortunately that has been his story. With his defense, 3pt shooting, and size if he wasn't so injury prone he would be getting paid 20+ mil/year IMO easily. Id be willing to take a risk.

The issue is look what Grant and Wood just got. #26 pick + bad salary, and the other for a Milwaukee pick and cap relief. Basically the trade value on these guys with one year left is almost nothing. With that in mind the Kings missed a golden opportunity to trade Barnes the last 2 deadlines IMO. Now we would be silly not to give him an extension.
He's 30, doesn't rely on athleticism, and shoots 40% from 3. This is a guy who can easily contribute for the next 3-4 years. Timeline is overrated, look at ATL, you can't keep all your young guys. You need a mix of vets/youth. Kings have that.
If we can get good value (replacement wing players that fit), absolutely we should trade him. But if we are just going to trade him for Grant value to say we did something? I'll pass.
Id absolutely call LAC though. Barnes + Holmes for Morris, Powell, Mann. Id consider throwing a protected 1st in to make that happen. Gives us 3 guys who can play 2-4, versatility, defense, and scoring. LAC consolidates some of their depth upgrades the starting 5 and gets off the Morris deal.
Sabonis/Jones
Murray/Morris
Mann/Holiday
Powell/Davis
Fox/Mitchell
Holmes/Zubac
Barnes/Covington
Kawhi/Batum/Boston
George/Kennard
Reggie Jackson

Re: THE Off-Season Thread 2022-23
If the Kings are looking to bring a Warriors player in with Brown to help install systems/culture/whatever, I think the guy to get is Juan Toscano Anderson. Not as big a name as the others mentioned in this thread, but would also come much cheaper.
Kerr referred to him as Draymond lite because he does at lot of the same things. He's a good secondary ball-handler and glue guy. He's very switchable on defense and knows the system well enough to where he was the quarterback at times when Dray or Looney weren't on the floor. Great cutter and gets a lot of dunks or shots at the basket, and can also stretch the floor although he can be streaky. Overall, he will give 100% effort at all times and do whatever is needed on the court. He reminds me a lot of Matt Barnes and looks to be on a similar career trajectory.
He was a core piece 2 years ago when GS made their run towards the play-in and he got his first guaranteed contract as a result. Unfortunately, last year they added Kuminga, Moody, Bjelica, Porter and Iguodala in front of him all before Klay even came back. He ended up losing minutes pretty quickly and never got himself back into the regular rotation for long. If the money was equal (probably vet min from both teams) I think he would take the Kings over a return just because he should have a much better chance at getting minutes in Sacramento next year.

I just want to highlight these two points right here.
The answer to #1 is absolutely yes, yes, yes. I would pay serious money to watch Davion/GPII on the court together for extended periods of time. In fact I wouldn't mind Davion being the starting SG, but also playing minutes with a line-up like
Davison/DDV/GPII/Murray/Sabonis.
That is some serious potential right there.
On the second point, and it fits with the first. When Sabonis got traded to the Kings I had never realized just how many easy baskets he gets people on cuts/backdoors etc.
Watching GPII in Golden State, it's like their a match made in heaven. So sign me up!
To me, GPII is the perfect signing for this team. I don't have to tell you how good he is, but I also view him as a culture setter, someone that works hard and will be a mentor to the younger players. Someone that has gone through his career and worked for everything he has got. Now Monte, and the Sacramento Kings, can be the heroes as well, and give the man his money.

Agreed.
I would still be in on Collins and Monte for sure has his offer in.
If Barnes was going to play the 3 this season, surely between Collins and Murray they would have it covered.
I have always been pro bringing Jones back on a long term deal (if we offload Holmes). Sabonis averages around 34-35mpg so there aren't a lot of minutes and the Kings IMO should go the Morey approach of putting the least amount of money in the players behind your best player.
Your last point is one that I think is definitely going to happen. DDV will be a King on a long term deal next season. Not sure if he will start between him and Davion though. I have a suspicion its DDV, and to be honest, I'm willing to see how that plays out. I haven't been against that, only if we upgrade the 3 or 4 significantly.

Re: THE Off-Season Thread 2022-23
Well Kings would have to outbid Warriors for GP2 and OPJ.
Given the Warriors cap situation, that would not be hard to do.
But when you say get OPJ cheap, you'd have to outbid what the Warriors are willing to pay him. Offering him the same money probably wouldn't work. If it's the same money, why would OPJ go to the Kings instead of stay with the Warriors?
BTW, other teams may try to sign him but these other fanbases like the Celtics think OPJ would leave the Warriors for the same vet minimum salary he got with the Warriors this past season.
Again, why would he, unless he has some ties to Boston.
I don't know where he grew up or where his family is but he went to school in Georgetown and played for the Wizards all those years so he may prioritize Washington if all he cared was about location.

I will say the only 2 things that could make Sac feel appealing to OPJ
1. More Minutes
2. Mike Brown
I have to imagine GS has more minutes penciled in for Kuminga/Moody next season. Klay will be there from the start instead of 50 games in. Wiseman is expected to be healthy to start next season.
Steph - Klay - Wiggins - Dray - Looney
Poole - Moody - Kuminga - Wiseman
Assuming Looney resigns, these 9 are pretty much a lock in the rotation. They just drafted Baldwin who probably won't see a ton of minutes, but could be in line for a few. They probably want to try and resign GPII, JTA, Lee, and then I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more ring chasers (similar to Bjelica/Iggy last year) sign for cheap. GS will get priced out on OPJ pretty easily, and its going to be tough to promise him even the 22mpg he got last year.
IMO OPJ is easily going to get more than the vet minimum. I want Sac to offer him partial MLE like 3/24. But considering he was a big factor last year, played great defense, shot the 3 well, stayed relatively healthy (81 total games), + the lack of available wings in free agency.. I could easily see a team take a bigger risk that they may quickly regret if he cant stay healthy.
