Re: 2022 Draft night thread
Did anybody watch the Kessler video kgdabom put up a page or 2 back?
This guy is no Cole Aldrich, not that Cole was bad. This guy is on a whole different level. He can shoot from the outside too. He looks just like Kat shooting. Watch the lateral quickness for a big guy when he defends. That video is impressive.

It is impressive, but highlight videos always are. Like you I saw nice lateral quickness and an ability to move his feet seldom seen in players so tall.

He can't shoot from the outside, he can't even shoot FTs! And he is limited defensively outside of interior defense. It is like you don't look into things and just make it up as you go...?

I really like what the Wolves did in the draft. Not a huge Kessler fan but has incredible upside as a back line defender, Moore was my favorite player in the draft, and Minott is a home run swing developmental prospect. All 3 make sense alongside Ant as future pieces and Moore/Kessler have the ability to contribute right away.

Just once I want to see the opposite. "yeah we're gonna take Dragan Bender" then cut to everybody looking all sad and exasperated sighs and swearing under their breath.

I literally see a rich man's James Harden on offense

Maybe this is not the dream scenario we wanted but we have to believe in our new FO...
My draft rule is "pick the best player available" and maybe tonight we didn't follow this rule but this the reason why I work in a bank agency and they are the Twolves front office...
According to me we will love both Kessler and Moore...
It's pretty clear that Connelly and his group are very comfortable with their scouting and evaluation capabilities in that they passed on guys who the general consensus had as better prospects. He has a track record that gives him the benefit of the doubt. so I'm optimistic that Kessler/Moore will turn into useful players fairly quickly.

I would love to see the Wolves sign Jean Montero to a 2-way deal.

If you watch the videos he has a beautiful shooting form from 3. Yes, I know he went 10 for 50 in college. On the surface thats terrible but it's on a low sample size. His dad says he's a really good 3 pt shooter but hasn't shown it. He was a 60% FT shooter so I've seen far worse. It doesn't take much to get to 70%.
Of course he's limited defensively from the perimeter but if you watch the videos he's light on his feet for a big guy and isn't lumbering one bit. He stayed with many guys trying to drive on him impressed me with his lateral quickness for such a big guy. He puts Pek to shame. I really suggest you go back and watch video on him.
BTW, they didn't draft him to defend the perimeter and shoot 3's. He is not the stereotype Cole Aldrich.

From the Star Tribune:
Auburn's Bruce Pearl: Timberwolves draft pick Walker Kessler more than a rim protector.
Kessler's college coach says the center is able to defend multiple positions along the perimeter and has a good shooting form despite lackluster numbers.

That's what I saw on the videos.

He mentioned in a recent interview that his offense stretch 5 game was actually his big selling point coming out of high school. UNC had him focus more on defense there and that's how that developed while his offense maybe laxed a bit.

I have to guess his chances at shooting consistently are slim to none largely because he is left handed and shoots right. Big problem. Maybe there are things behind the scenes, changes being made, but why he was bad in college is evident.

I've been remarking on his ambidexterity and a lot of that was based on him shooting right, but getting more blocks left. This is a strange and interesting factoid assuming it's correct. I don't see why him shooting right is a problem if that's the way he's always done it.
