who leads us in scoring next year?

Post#1 » by JBSouthpaw » Fri Jun 24, 2022 11:16 am

I was watching the NBA channel this morning, their draft recap.
It was Brendon Haywood, Wasserman and Katz I believe. they were talking about the Magic of course and 1 of them asked the question
"who would be Magic's leading scorer next year?"

they listed Fultz, Franz, Cole and Paolo.
they agreed it would be Cole... I was super surprised by that. They agreed it would be Paolo soon after this year.

Do you guys see it that way?

1. they left WCJ out of the equation, who was #3 last year
2. I was hoping they said Franz

If it's Cole, we're dead...my guess is lazy reporting. When I read national media talking about "fit with Cole Anthony...", I really think they haven't watched a game.

I'd be stunned if it's not Paolo. Before the draft, I figured PB for rookie of the year and big stats, but Jabari making everyone else better and more wins. WCJ should never be...my dark horse is Fultz - the other #1 overall guy on the team.

Agree about Cole. I'd say the same about Fultz, unless he some how jumps to +40% on his 3s.

It could be neck and neck between Banchero and F-Wagner.

The media keeps mentioning Cole as our best player and the future of this team. That is why I have wanted the Magic to cash in now before it is too late but that won't happen. The thought of trading him won't even cross their mind until it is too late and he loses value or maybe it never crosses their mind because Cole becomes a miracle and proves me wrong which is what I am hoping for at this point.

Selling 2nd round picks for ‘cash considerations’ and holding onto players until they have no value.

A Weltman and Hammond specialty.

Hopefully it is Banchero.

Very excited to see the Wagner Banchero combo.

I think it’ll be Franz or Banchero. The rookie will have more of a green light to shoot but Franz being a year in and already comfortable hopefully means he’ll elevate his production and average 20+. That’s my hope anyway. If it’s Cole we can probably look forward to another shot at the number 1 pick because we won’t be winning much. The easiest way to improve across the board is to start Markelle and let Anthony fire away as a 6th man.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I want Franz not being afraid to put up 15+ shots a night.

Paolo & Franz, 15+ shots a night each

Not sure if anyone else on the team deserves more than 12 based on last year.

My guess is Franz as he seems the most suited. Too much to ask from Paolo a rookie even though we suck at scoring.

Suggs and Fultz have a chance to lead us. Suggs averaged around 17.6 ppg per 36 mpg on poor shooting.

Franz easily. They held him back purposely to tank last season. He was tearing it up, just got rookie of the month and they pretty much took the ball out of his hands.

I think Paolo is an automatic 20ppg for his career...(maybe) not too efficiently at first, but I can't imagine Mr. #1 won't keep shooting or not be encouraged to do so. I think it's completely in his DNA to lead and he'll either be a star or a bigger Cole Anthony...but he'll score either way :D

Franz' rookie year had me pencilling him in for 20ppg this season, until they drafted PB..I hope they can both be 20ppg scorers AND play the right way. Their games are kind of similar and I hope their ball movement and penetration talents are compounded together-rather than marginalizing each others' strengths. We'll see.

Cole is another guy that probably has good reason to think he'll be hitting 20ppg this year. Most disagree (me included) but he's a real possibility to start because he can shoot and will shoot and our other guards mostly can't. He really has a chance of blowing up this year if he and the two forwards develop some great chemistry. I rag on Cole a lot, but he's got as good a chance as any to take a big leap in maturity/efficiency this year...you can't deny his mental makeup or his skill.

As I scour the NBA looking for shooters, it occurs to me that RJ is the dark horse in this race. If his shooting takes off (we've seen flashes), he could be the missing piece at SG. He went from .310 his rookie year to .350 last year, with stretches of real solid shooting. He's 6'6, super athletic, plays D and competes...if his shooting jumps, he could be a spot up star (we just need to take the ball out of his hands-until it's time to shoot an open 3). He shares an agent and has a relationship with PB, so who knows where the chemistry develops? RJ is a guy I've basically disregarded in lineups, potential, etc but things are changing quickly around here.

Don't be surprised if it's Paolo.
I would say Franz or Paolo and probably WCJ if he stays healthy

I'm not convinced Cole is a huge part of the plan moving forward. When asked directly about all three young guards - Cole, Markelle and Jalen - Weltman didn't even really mention Cole.

Could mean nothing, but I'm not convinced he's in the long-term plans at all.

I'm going to say Banchero because I think he's going to have a higher usage rate than we think and he's going to put shots up.

They don't watch Magic games or they just want to support cole to support his father.
They have no idea or they just watch the stats.

I dont think Anthony has much value but i can be wrong. His efficiency is a disaster.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !
