- pre-emptively negotiate on day 1 with a 5 yr deal, slightly below max, but fair value... like 5/125.

1st option runs risk of bad blood, but ensures we pay market value and only 4 yrs.
2nd option runs risk of negotiating against yourself and overpaying, but shows we are 100% committed

Whatever we do, don't lowball and make sure to contact him as soon as free agency opens. Be transparent in our intentions.

Pretty much this. But if he wants 5 years than he's taking a small hit per year. Keeping in mind he gets higher incremental % increases per annum if we offer the deal.

Personally I think option 1 is better unless he is willing to come to the table and make some concessions too in exchange for longer guaranteed money.

125 is "slightly below max"? His Max is $173M isn't it?

yeah his max is completely ridiculous for a player of his caliber but he isn't getting a 5-year max from anybody. A 4 year max from another team is like 4/130 and I doubt he's getting that.

If it weren't for DET, my starting offer would be around 5/120, but I think I'd just go ahead and start at 5/140, all guaranteed, no options.

You know we will be dumb enough to make the fifth year a player option. Surely we aren't THAT stupid, RIGHT?

Is that Miles' account?

Interesting that Jalen liked it. We should trade him for a 2nd.

Please, sign him a 90/100 over 4 years offer sheet... problem solved for both parties (not talking about the Klutch part)

So, anyone still not having concerns about this guy yet?

Bridges can’t stop doing stupid. Bad signal. Melo (I guess) is at least keeping his stupid under cover, although I don’t know as I’m not perusing social media. Miles needs an intervention.

Wouldn’t hurt to quietly explore some good sign and trades for him.

nice job Kupchak trading Duren to DET removing DET need to pursue Ayton thereby paving their way to pursue Miles

self-sabotage compounded by Hayward Rozier contracts

I don't think this team cannot afford to lose Miles

He also took out that he was a forward for the Charlotte Hornets off his twitter bio for whatever that's worth.

To be clear, that post on IG was not from Miles, but one of his buddies... according to reddit. I don't follow any players on IG.

Oh we need Miles, or, someone who can deliver like he did AND stay out of the ditch. Which is why we REALLY needed to keep both picks and draft Eason or similar. But….

I like Mitch but I sometimes think he’s playing checkers while other play chess.

Miles needs an intervention because one of his rap buddies wrote a line about shrooms in food and him playing for Detroit?

You know that if one of his rap buddies writes a line that Miles "capped some sucka's with a glock he keeps in his sock", that doesn't actually mean that Miles shot anyone.

Right?

Dudes never had an off court incident in high school or college or in the pro's.
Got his two kids and in a relationship with the kids mother.
Hasn't said anything crazy or brought anything on himself.

The only one thing was being frustrated by getting kicked out of a blow out play in game and in anger, threw his mouth guard which inadvertently grazed a fan - which he immediately owned as being poor form and who he immediately sought out to connect with and looked to apologize to.

I mean, some of you guys are seriously overshooting things with this intervention talk.

The only problematic or dumb thing LaMelo has done (so far) is run through a red light.

I'm not really concerned with Miles' overall behavior on and off the court right now. I got pissed with him in his rookie season when we got eliminated and Kemba was visibly dejected and then Miles was retweeting his game highlights just minutes after the game. I think he has matured now and seems to care more about the team.

yeah nothing Miles has ever done except the "pink lemonade" stuff has been remotely concerning to me. Even then, idgaf what he does in his off time unless it impacted the team. if he'd been drug tested and got himself suspended for it we'd be in deep **** for next season. For that, he should've had every team official in his ear immediately.

A friend tweeting that he should go to Detroit, an isolated incident of him chucking his mouthpiece after being eliminated from the play-in after which he immediately went out of his way to apologize, and his bad rapping aren't anything to even talk about.

Seems like an above average 23-year-old to me

Seems like the right move to me. Don't just offer a max.
