man if Kyrie signs for TMLE, this guy will have given up nearly 50mill over 2 years over his principles. Crazy and all that sure, but my man got integrity. Puts his money where his mouth is

Re: Shams: Kyrie Irving, Nets are at impasse in conversations about his future in Brooklyn
Irving has great interest in joining the Lakers, sources said, which he could do by declining the $36.5 million option and signing with Los Angeles for the $6 million taxpayer mid-level exception.
Irving has until Wednesday to make a decision on exercising his $36.5 million option on the 2022-2023 season. Once he opts into the deal, he's no longer eligible for a sign-and-trade. The Nets could proceed working to trade him as an expiring contract, but Irving would have no formal voice in a potential landing spot.
Irving needs a trade partner to coordinate an agreement on a deal to get a long-term, maximum contract, but only the Lakers have interest in executing a sign-and-trade once free agency opens on Thursday night, sources said.
So far, the Nets have no interest in taking back the available Lakers packages, sources said.

On paper they would be, but what are the chances that all three of those guys are healthy come the end of the season?
would those three play 30 games together next season? with AD's injuries, lebron's age and Kyrie being kyrie, i might take the under on that

I hope its true, but i dont think so. It just has to be a legitimate threat, and Kyrie has shown himself to be crazy enough that it is a real threat. At which point, the ball gets put back in the Nets court. If the Lakers are the only legit team that wants Kyrie, is WB+1st rounders better than nothing? Are the Nets gonna be cutting off their nose to spite their face if they dont take it?
From a purely game theory perspective where you assume the other side is gonna be rational, then Kyrie's threat of taking the TMLE should push the Nets to take anything and everything they can for him instead of letting him walk for nothing.

Lets say the Nets rerout Kyrie for Westbrook to Indy.
Nets get back Brodgon/Turner.
Is that enough to compete in the East?
Simmons
Brodgon
Harris
KD
Turner

I wonder if the Suns would give up Bridges in a Durant trade, because the Nets could be back in bid'ness if it's Ayton and Bridges for Durant.

2 1st rounders from Lakers + 2 philly 1st rounders is probably an overpay but i guess you have to to complete a deal like this quickly over the summer and to motivate the Pacers to move on it. Simmons/Brogdon/KD/Turner probably have a total average of 60% of games played over the past 5 years.
A contender for sure, but a team that is probably less than likely to stay healthy for an entire playoff run

Luxury tax aside, the Nets are better off taking any unprotected future firsts they can get from the Lakers. it's going to be a long hard rebuild with the Rockets controlling their picks for the next 5 years.
Kinda, the Rockets are rebuilding also, they just got what the 3 pick in the draft? Its fair to say both teams if they rebuild would be in the lottery.
That is probably only in the Nets favor for the 23 season/draft when the Rockets are very likely to still be terrible and the Rockets can only swaps picks with the Nets. After that the Rockets own the Nets pick in 24 outright and will likely be trying hard to make the playoffs because they owe picks to the Thunder in 24, 25 (swap), 26.

Who will help the Lakers get Kyrie Irving? Maybe one or two teams at best.
Will Michael Jordan help LeBron James rid himself of Russell Westbrook and possibly aid in James accumulating more rings? If it saves him money, I suppose yes.
If the Lakers find a team to take Westbrook, will Brooklyn want the overpriced salaries that will definitely be coming their way? Slim chance.
Will said players be attractive to Durant? Probably not, no.
Will Simmons talent be enough to keep Durant invested in the Nets? This is the million dollar question.

If everyone is healthy and Simmons can be a high caliber player it can be a contending team. But it would require a perfect storm. If Kyrie leaves BK is probably better off blowing it up and hoping that they can get a high pick this year while the Rockets are still likely to be terrible.

Nets can't get a high pick because the Rockets have pick swaps!

Nets can't get a high pick because the Rockets have pick swaps!
He said next year. The assumption is both Houston and Brooklyn will be bad this next draft, so the pick swap will be less detrimental.

I mean the team being re routed is getting Westbrook right?
I think any 3rd party team here be would one either with a massive traded player exception or a massive expiring themselves and they themselves would want a pick given to them as payment to do it.
I don't see the Pacers saying yes we got Westbrook let's give up Brodgdon and Turner too! Those guys are easily worth 2 late first rounders (which is what the Lakers firsts would be) themselves.
Westbrook isn't a horrible contract by any means, he's an expiring but he isn't an asset that a third team is going to give up assets for. The 3rd team is the one doing NY and LA a favor not the other way around.

The Lakers can waive and stretch Westbrook and give THT away to create enough to give Kyrie the max.

Just know this: Ben Simmons boycotted against being on the 76ers. They're better without him. Will he do the same with Brooklyn? Also, how much of a clown show that would look like with Rich Paul looking at this situation and going "Why did we come here?"

You're asking the Lakers to waive and stretch $47 million dollars?

A lot of question marks between Brogdon's health and Simmons's everything, but on paper that lineup fits pretty damn well. Its about as good a fit for Simmons as you could get. If they managed to stay healthy I wouldn't say that team is the favorite in the East but I think I'd slot them right behind Boston and Milwaukee. Do you think the Nets would have any interest in getting back Hayward/Rozier?

eh. Westbrook is filler in this case. The value is the 1st's and any trade they do will end up having filler. All things considered, expiring filler is far from terrible. They can pull a Houston-Wall and tell him to sit at home and see if they can get more assets later on by taking longer contracts (hello Hayward+ another 1st).
Getting 4 first rounders for 2 decent above starters who arent part of your future and one of which is expiring......I'd take that as a win.
