Lmao, people on /r/nba are screaming that this is a bad trade for the Spurs.

The Spurs just drafted Blake Wesley, essentially Dejounte Murray in waiting. They're going to do a tryout for who wants to be the all star SG/SF between Sochan, Vassell, Primo, Keldon, and Branham. Then they're going to cash in on the Hawks eventual rebuild because they can't seem to get it right and Dejounte Murray is simply not going to add anything to a non-Dejounte Murray run team.

I mean, they had Kris Dunn last year, a ball dominant PG who plays high level defense but inefficient on offense. He was essentially discarded.

Brilliant trade by the Spurs. They're ascension in the West will come as no surprise to me.

Just when you thought the Spurs were turning into a hack organization, they're planting the seeds for another dynasty.

Actually, normal people would just opt in and take the money and try to get a longterm deal next go around. You're not unique, Kyrie. You just wish you were.

Not the least bit surprising to me. Kyrie may be crazy, but turning down 37 million to sign with the loser Lakers for 6 million? He ain't that crazy.

Looks like we get to keep Sam Cassell for another year which is awesome. I definitely want him to keep mentoring Maxey and now Melton as well.

Plus he can seamlessly step in when Rivers gets canned, as is tradition.

Drafting Ayton over Luka and then not even wanting to give him a max extension is an all time f*ck up.

I’d put most of the blame on Ayton for any interpersonal drama. Monty Williams is famously the most loveable person in the NBA so if you can’t get along with him that’s a huge red flag imo.

Yes, brilliant trade by Spurs.

Trae is gonna have the ball almost all the time, he’s one of the league’s best playmaker. Hawks plays with a big 4-5 with Collins-Okongwu-Capela. Hawks does not need Murray’s assists and rebounds, while they are paying heavy for it.

Yes, Murray takes some load off Trae’s playmaking. For instance, Tucker was trapping Trae fullcourt that wore down Trae in that Heat series. While I find Trae’s load in playmaking is leading to decline of his shooting.

But this isn’t a Draymond-Steph set-up. Draymond and Steph isn’t switchable, unlike Trae-Dejounte. Draymond also sets ATG great type screens.

Personally, I’d rather go after Ben Simmons. Dangling John Collins to the Nets. Hawks then can run Bogdanovic at SG and play that Klay role. Or even possibly Huerter. Ben provides them what Dejounte can provide, but Ben allows them to have more shooting on the floor because of his size to play PF just as what Draymond’s role is to the Warriors

Personally, it’s smart for them not to overpay Ayton. But stupid of them to just let him go for nothing. They should have traded Ayton before last season started to the deadline when guys like Biyombo was playing as well with his role.

Lakers won’t be able to resign Monk. That team is going to stink next year even if AD and James stay healthy.
