Re: Better Player Right Now: Stephen Curry or Jokic
If I have a team without much talent then it's Jokic easily as he's the better floor raiser and could drag virtually any team to the playoffs (while Curry doesn't have the physical or mental makeup to do so)...

Didn't Curry carry the Warriors just last season to the play-in or am I dreaming?

If both have the exact same supporting cast, I'll go with Jokic rather easily.

"Carrying to the play in" lol
Jokic carried his team to almost 50 wins without his 2nd and 3rd best players all year. Curry still had his 3rd best player and still couldn't achieve what Jokic did lol.

They went 37-26 with Curry on the floor (a 49 win pace). He averaged 32/6/6 on a 66% TS. Nobody is doing any better than that with that roster.
As far as this question goes, who knows. I have Curry, Jokic and Giannis as the 3 best players/leaders in the NBA. Totally fine with a Jokic>Curry take though. He's the deserving b2b MVP.

Curry with minimal help. Eliminated in the play in. Jokic with minimal help, 6 seed and quick first round exit. Curry may have regressed a little bit from that season too.
Slight edge to Jokic

Jokic teammates are underrated they are far from journey men scrubs. Almost 6 players on that roster averaged double digits for whole season. And even when jokic was out from foul trouble they had no problem generating points. Curry has the playmaking abiltiy the 3pt range and "gravity" to elevate that supporting cast to play above their level. I do believe curry could carry that team as far in the playoffs if not father than jokic did.

Biggest difference was just games played, Jokic was healthier...if that's why you rank Jokic over Curry, that's fair. But that'd be the argument there.

Jokić without a doubt. Curry wouldn't got this year's Nuggets team into playoffs.

Jokic is too easily exploited on defense. Bigs who can’t defend in space can wreck an entire teams defensive scheme.

The offense dropped off 10 points per 100 and the defense another 6 per 100 when he was off the floor.

Well for starters, Curry had a better cast last year than Jokic had this year. Also, availability IS a factor. And finally, Jokic played like an MVP from the get-go. Last year, Curry did so in the second half of the year.

Re: Better Player Right Now: Stephen Curry or Jokic
Joker didn't have to play with massive net negative players in oubre and wiseman when comparing bad teams. He was also healthier. Curry missed a bunch of games in 2021 yet still dragged them to 8th seed.
I say they are similar but in the playoffs i would take curry for the offense load and gravity. Regular season i would go joker.
Tho man i would love to see a curry joker team.

Swap teams and Warriors don't win a title with Jokic instead of Curry. End of story.

1. What evidence do you have for this claim? Wiseman was the worst rotation player in the league last year. Oubre was 4th in minutes and a complete negative in every way possible. Wiggins had a negative BPM and less than a .1 WS/48, Bazemore was a negative 1.2 BPM, Looney was negative 0.9, and pool was negative 0.5. Jokic's teammates look very similar. Gordon -0.6 BPM, Barton -0.5, Green -2.5, Rivers -3.8...yeah a lot of below average players. You could argue there was a slight advantage for Curry just eye balling it but it's slight.
2. Hey availability is fine.
3. this is just a silly argument here. Curry went nuclear averaging like 37 a game over the last 23 games but he was absolutely playing like an MVP the rest of the season too. His team got better once they benched Wiseman, who was a worst player than anyone Jokic had in the rotation this year (which is saying a LOT). Pre allstar break Curry was 29.7 5.5 6.3 on 64.6 TS%.

Re: Better Player Right Now: Stephen Curry or Jokic
Curry.
They are both insanely efficient scorers, and great playmakers.
But, as a guard, it's harder to get the ball out of Curry's hands, which increases his level of control over the game.
And he's more impactful when he gets trapped, because it happens further away from the basket, which creates more space in a 4-on-3 going downhill. When teams double Jokic, the ball usually goes away from the basket.
Finally, though he's a good defender in the regular season, Jokic does struggle defending against the league's best guards in the playoffs. They can target him in the pick-and-roll, which hurts his defensive impact and compromises the Nuggets' defense. Steph is no longer (if he ever has been) a liability of that sort.

Re: Better Player Right Now: Stephen Curry or Jokic
Jokic, comfortably to me. Curry when he's hot trumps every player in history. But he can't match the consistency that Jokic carries to every game (especially now) and I doubt he can carry practically any roster to offensive respectability like Jokic can either. The Nuggets were ranked 6th in offense last year (Warriors were 17th) with Aaron Gordon as their 2nd leading scorer, which just boggles the mind.
