Better leapers Soccer, NBA or NFL athletes?

Post#1 » by EasternHeretic » Tue Jun 28, 2022 1:37 am

1 footed, 2 footed, standing start, running start, double bounce etc. One would think that NFL players are the most explosive but they also weigh a lot more, soccer players all got tree trunk legs and vertical's always a big deal in basketball.

NFL has more high 40+ leapers than the NBA simply because overall the league is a lot shorter. It's easier to find 6'2 mega athletes than it is to find 6'8+ ones.

I think NFL WR's or CB's leap better than NBA players. This is weighed down a lot by the OL/Dl players. Literally and figuratively.

Soccer players (minus the freaks like Ronaldo) are the worst leapers, but have by far the best stamina.

So my rankings:

NBA
NFL (although they have the best leapers if you sort by position/size)

Yea, but NFL guys have to carry a lot of extra weight as well, which makes leaping higher even more impressive.

If you're talking about explosiveness and athletic ability like jumping, running, agility NFL is light years ahead of the NBA. I have no idea about soccer. Obviously you're going to have outliers like a RW or a Lebron but as a whole, nothing touches the NFL

Volleyball players
Sam Hinkie gets removed from the league for enacting a plan approved by the fanbase yet NIco Harrison and Patrick Dumont keep their job for alienating their fanbase. Make it make sense.

Volleyball players top all of those guys, but NO-KG-AI already gave you the right group of those three.

I’ve had multiple track and field coaches from high school to college say that soccer players are the best all round athletes that they cross-train.

so what are we talking about,,,pure numbers?
football players are better athletes. football is a pure speed/strength sport
basketball players' jumping is part of the job and playing basketball is more of a skill sport
soccer players run all day

This is NFL by far. There were 9 players this year in the NFL combine that had standing verticals of 40+ inches.

Only one player in the history of the NBA combine has exceeded 40 and only four have exceeded 38.

They do, and a lot of that ends up lower body work that makes them a little less fluid and less capable of long endurance and stuff, but they can use all that extra raw lower body power for short area bursts into the air.

But yea, I think most of it is just that it's easier to find explosive athletes that are shorter than finding ones that are taller. Just a much larger pool to draw from.

NBA players are most known for jumping out of the three groups. They probably jump the highest.

But there are different types of jumps.

I think there are track athletes in the NFL that would probably annihilate any NBA player in the long jump or triple jump.

Soccer? lol.

One thing when you compare NFL combine vertical numbers vs NBA combine vertical numbers. The NFL only tests standing vertical, so they don’t do the running “max vert” test. Which makes the NFL numbers that much more crazier.

But ya when it comes to explosive athleticism it’s the NFL by a wide margin. These guys live in the weight room, all they do is train to maximize their explosive movements. Those guys are truly just built differently.

Yup their sport is literally build on short area explosion and 3-6 bursts of energy. Even NBA guys need more endurance and the ability to leap under control with the ball.

Baseball players - all the way!!!!

Seriously, though, some baseball players can jump pretty stinking high. I've seen some outfielders jump much higher than you'd think possible to rob a homerun (not talking about the guys who climb the wall for extra height), or infielders leaping extremely high at the drop of a hat to catch a line-drive hit that should be well over their head.

But, who does the most spectacular leaps :rocking:

If going for the ball, elevation off your opponent should be encouraged :D

Leaping ability is not a trait that's particularly useful in NFL football or proper football, while being incredibly useful in basketball, so it stands to reason that NBA players on average are better leapers.

Nfl and soccer players train so much harder than basketball players but in terms of athletic ability- a Zack Lavine, Zion, Gordon; Giannis or Lebron are a level beyond when you add size into the the conversation
