At the risk of looking foolish a few years from now, I had Beauchamp as a lottery level prospect and think he has a decent chance to be our long term starting SG/help soften the blow as our other guys get older and start to decline. His potential is being underrated by a lot of people IMO and I think he has the mental makeup to have a decent chance of reaching it.

You always look back on previous drafts and think, how could a team take player X over player Y in hindsight and I could see this year's draft providing some of the most stark examples of that. There were 12 SG's, SG/SF's and SF's taken ahead of Beauchamp and I could easily see in 5 years fans of 10 teams saying to themselves how could our team pass on Beauchamp for our guy.

I thought some of his movement reminded me of Kawhi, but I didn't feel like being the one to bring up that name and have to deal with blowback. That little hesitation dribble looks very Kawhi.

I went back and forth on it over the course of the last few days. Smooth athleticism, relentless motor, knack for finding little gaps in the defense for looks off ball, budding pull up game. The one big difference would be the weight. Leonard came in at like 227. I think Beauchamp can easily put on 20lbs and unlock another level of explosiveness. Either way, he does not play like he's only 196 lbs. He seems to have a lot of functional strength.

Marion is the other guy that crossed my mind, even down to the JuCo path.

Bud doesn't play into the rotation players under 29 so I expect to resign Thon Maker...

PS the Kawhi & Pippen comparison are laughable ... it is not only the talent level ... it's about who coached them ... Kawhi & Pippen had the best EVER coaches ... Popovich & Phil Jackson.
Bud is just a coach who is friendly with the players , implemented the 5 out offense with Giannis on court that any elementary school coach would do so. It took him 2 years and alot of luck and probably called out by his players to add the dunker spot on offense that made wonders. In any case Bud has done nothing to improve any of our young players. This board is similar to Donte board... it took you 4 years to realize that he is not good enough even if he tried his best.

As I said earlier in this thread, his ability to be malleable and not only fit into a new role, but produce at a high level is one of the more promising things about MB. I'm confident in him being a legitimate contributor at points throughout the season.

His defense and ability to run the floor will earn him minutes. The progress of his three point shot, particularly from the corner, will ultimately be the differentiating factor in the consistency of those minutes.

This honestly came to my mind as well.

But then I was like, he’s probably an inch or two shorter, has demonstrated no play making/point forward ability, and will almost assuredly be a worse defender. What’s left at that point?

2018 - Donte was 12th in mp at age 22
2019 - Donte was 6th in mp at age 23
2020 - Donte was 5th in mp at age 24

Might be playing with decent focus (sorry Nwora) and decent energy (sorry DJ) and decent composure (sorry Thon) is the key to staying outside of Bud's doghouse.

He reminds me of a young Jimmy Butler, both his body type and his attitude.

Donte was also much higher his rookie season. Donte was getting 20 mpg his rookie year

Pippen and Kawhi are all time greats and HOFers, thats a generous comparison for a top 5 pick let alone #24. Lets just hope the guy can shoot over 30% from deep and translate his physical profile into actually being +defender in the league so he’s a rotation player first. Passing and ballhandling still a mystery, its going to have to be exponentially better than expected for these comparisons not to be laughably off.

Pippen was a half inch taller.
Which means, clearly, that Marjon will be 99.4% as good as Pippen.

Probably should be better than at least one of those guys...probably both...combined...by the time his rookie contract is over.

I like the pick just off the fact that we’re searching for more defensive versatility and at the end of the 1st it’s mostly a crap shoot anyway. I still only see liggins/Craig/mkg type of player instead of a two way wing or even 3&d guy. I don’t see how he would help us in the near future.

Kawhi was picked 15th and there are no geniuses in the NBA. If you want to say Kawhi, say Kawhi, who gives a ****.

I really love that move that shows up in his highlights where he finishes the play in transition with a quick drop step after turning his back to the basket. That kind of instinct is a prereq for becoming a pro scorer.

You're giving these coaches way too much credit, and the players way too little.

I definitely feel like the Bucks expect him to have an immediate role on the team. The way they are acting with this pick sure makes it feel that way
