If PB is the guy, we need to restructure the team around him with shooters and D. He and Franz might be great PnR, but we just can't have 5 mediocre shooters on the floor...all this talk of "creation" is true, but somebody needs to finish the job...this was definitely a BPA move, IMO, roster fit be damned for now- which is OK, but I hope the FO gets to work and skips the "assessment year".
tbh, the only guys that are safely part of the new future with PB is Wagner and Carter Jr. I think you are right, the rest of this roster is going to get reshaped around PB. Having a bunch of guards that cannot shoot is not going to work.
It is PB's team now, you can get away with your power forward shooting 30-40% from 3, but if fultz/suggs/cole cant man the guard spots and shoot at least 35% from deep, they have to go. What is the point of having a walking mismatch if your guards can't knock down the open shots he creates and defenses are able to double him with no issues.
Honestly this is my view no matter who we drafted. In todays modern NBA, you cant have guards rotation that shoots that bad. Celtics got away with Marcus smart (in exchange for defensive player of the year) because they have Jalen and Tatum, and guys like Horford creating space.
Agreed. If they took Jabari, one could argue that he's complimentary, makes the team better, spreads the floor, plays D, and MAYBE becomes a big time leading man in a few years. Banchero, IMO, is only a leading man. He is now the face of the franchise and even Franz is supporting cast. If anybody can't keep up or doesn't fit...they have to go. I don't see any chance of PB not starting or not being the primary guy on offense...he will sink or swim. I think he'll be rookie of the year and the surrounding roster moves and internal growth will determine whether ORL gets better or whether PB was the right pick. Jabari was more in line with WeHam's pace or steady, sensible building to this point...I find PB to be a more EXCITING pick, for better or worse. We need some shooters around him to take a big step. The team, as it presently stands, isn't necessarily a perfect fit for our star. We can't be afraid to make roster moves to max out the star we've been clamoring for.
Wouldn't surprise me to see Bamba back on a team-friendly deal. (DET and CHA got their Centers) Who would outbid us for him? 38% from 3 and rim protection makes him a more interesting fit than before -as those are PB's alleged weak areas. I'd be more interested in keeping Harris with a 3 or 4 year deal now as well (rather than an overpay 1 or 2-hopefully, he values the duration vs ring-chasing).
